From Our BACA President
by Jim Keating

I thank the Board for a good discussion on how to move forward this year and into 2019. We all feel BACA has a valuable role to play in our community, and that the opportunities for performers are valuable. We will focus on member engagement, publicity, and outreach on social media encouraging the use of #BostonCabaret in your posts.

We will focus on doing what we do best and producing our planned events well. We may not do the large quantity but will focus on quality.

Please plan to attend the last Performance Showcase of the year on Sunday, December 9 at 6:00 p.m.. We had planned another one but unfortunately had to cancel it due to low participation. We will likely only produce one such event in 2019, and a masterclass.

Our most successful event is the monthly Open Mic in Watertown. We have been getting better attendance and even have some regular "listeners." I hope you will find new ways to engage with BACA, Enjoy what we have to offer and continue to learn to express yourself even more!

Farewell to ATAC Cabaret Open Mics
by Leslie Holmes

As most of you know by now, the monthly Wednesday night Cabaret Open Mic at the Amazing Things Arts Center (ATAC) has been discontinued. From 1997 to the present, I have hosted a Cabaret Open Mic inspired and facilitated by Michael Moran, Executive Director and founder of TCAN and Amazing Things. Venues have included a storefront in Natick, TCAN, and at Amazing Things, which before 2008 was located at Java Jim's, Easy Motion Health Club, Saxonville, and after 2008 in Framingham.

It has been a good run, but attendance was down and ATAC could no longer afford the expenses involved in keeping it running. Many have enjoyed the supportive, congenial atmosphere, talented features, and excellent accompanists (most frequently, Tom LaMark).

Thank you for your love and support! There is a ground swell to start another Open Mic in MetroWest. Stay tuned.
Thank You, Leslie Holmes
ATAC Cabaret Open Mic and Chair, Advisory Board

Lucky for us, even if Amazing Things has discontinued the cabaret open mic, this busy talented lady continues to grace our Advisory Board as chair, and as liaison to the BACA Board. For her many gifts and compassionate heart, we are deeply grateful.

But here is a special thank you to Leslie for the years she has put into giving others a warm and welcoming place to get started, to be brave, make new friends, and follow their hearts.

Thank you, Leslie, for spearheading the ATAC cabaret open mic all these years, for being there for so many and for coordinating the many logistics. How lucky we are!!

BACA Open Mics
by Linda Marks, Board, Open Mic Director

Open Mics serve many purposes. They provide a ready-made audience, enable singers to test new material,  prepare for upcoming gigs or simply sing a favorite song.

Singers should prepare up to two songs and bring music charts in the correct key. We provide a high quality professional pianist so you can focus on the performance of your song.

Open Mics provide a high quality, affordable way to enjoy live music. Come enjoy a fun evening while supporting the arts and budding artists! Listeners are most welcome.
