It's official! June 4, from this point on, will be known as "Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day" in the state of New Jersey. The purpose of the day is to raise public awareness of TS, educate physicians, other health care professionals, and school personnel about the condition, help improve the quality of life of all people touched by TS, and encourage the research necessary to identify the cause of TS, control its effects, and find a cure for the disorder.
The joint resolution, which officially designates the day, passed the General Assembly on May 24 and the Senate on June 7.
To mark the occasion, State Senators Kip Bateman and Troy Singleton, sponsors of the resolution, invited NJCTS representatives including Executive Director Faith Rice, Youth Advocate Sarah Baldwin and Board Member Steven Lindenbaum, to the floor of the Senate for a photo with Senate President Stephen Sweeney.
Effective immediately, the Governor is respectfully requested to annually issue a proclamation recognizing June 4 as "Tourette Syndrome Awareness Day" in New Jersey and calling upon public officials, the citizens of the State, and other interested groups to observe the day with appropriate activities and programs.
