Welcome to Arts and Science
at Queen's University

What an exciting time for you, for us, and for the University. It is a unique time at Queen's right now with a reinvigorated focus on research promotion, faculty renewal, and deliberative actions toward equity, diversity, and inclusivity.  We have become known throughout the world as a top destination for excellent undergraduate student experience and our enrolment numbers and thresholds back that up. You are joining us a time when we are turning our focus toward graduate education to strive for excellence in the same way we have with our undergraduates.

As a new faculty member myself just over a year ago, and a new member of the Kingston community, this city has much to offer. Did you know that it is officially a 'smart-city' and it boasts more PhDs per capita than any other city in Canada. While you may appreciate the quality of life in Kingston, the Faculty of Arts and Science is also mindful of the many new experiences you will encounter as a new faculty and community member.

Throughout the year you will hear from us often, including a bi-weekly regular staff and faculty enewsletter. We are hoping to make your first year at Queen's a smooth one with an easy transition. To start this journey, we have set up a section of our staff and faculty website just for you -- a one-stop-shop to find the information you need including training, teaching support, forms and many other resources to help you feel at home here at Queen's. We do not want you to be overwhelmed by the various activities the university is organizing for your successful transition. You are welcome to pick and choose - or not - for these activities that have been organized with you in mind. If you need direction during the year simply reach out to our communications team and they can help you find what you are looking for.

I look forward to welcoming you in person very soon.

Sincerely,

Barbara Crow, PhD
Dean, Faculty of Arts and Science
