6 Questions and a Cup of Coffee with...Liz Perraud
Liz Perraud is Executive Director of GenOn Ministries. GenOn is a nonprofit organization that equips Christian communities for discipleship through intergenerational relationships. She and her husband Art live in Columbia, Maryland, and are the parents of three wonderful adult sons, two amazing daughters-in-law and an adorable granddaughter.
1. Can you describe your call to ministry?
My call to ministry began as a young mom volunteering as a Sunday school teacher and a LOGOS ministry leader in the Presbyterian church I attend. I love the rhythm of the school and program year providing the opportunity to answer a call to serve a year at a time, each year building on the next. I believe that whole journey led me to my current call to lead GenOn Ministries. I still volunteer in LOGOS at my church, assisting with the family-style meal time and leading middle school Bible study each Wednesday night.
2. What is the best part of your ministry now?
I love representing our organization in conversation with other organizations. It's important to learn from one another and discover ways to collaborate to grow God's kingdom. I also enjoy seeing what churches are doing to live out Christian community.
3. What is one fact about you that would surprise people?
I play the spoons. Not the card game where everyone grabs a spoon from the center of the table but clacking two spoons together as part of a band. I've played in Jamaica, in an Irish pub, in church, and at my brother's wedding reception.
4. What are three things Christian educators need to keep their eye on?
Relationships, relationships, relationships.
5. What are some of your favorite resources?
I think all of GenOn's resources rock because they've been created in response to the church's needs. I'm most excited about our "coming soon" Sunday LIFT (Living In Faith Together) as an intergenerational approach to Sunday school. I appreciate curated sites like John Roberto's Lifelong Faith as well as Virginia Theological Seminary's Building Faith. I am also a big fan of Carolyn Brown and her "Worshiping with Children" blog.
6. How can we pray for you?
For clarity of vision as GenOn enters a time of looking forward with our newly formed advisory council. Our advisory council includes twelve experts we've asked to help us evaluate the current and future state of the intergenerational ministry culture and ensure that GenOn remains relevant to those who are dedicated to the future of intergenerational ministries.
