SUMMER OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Looking for an opportunity to be Christ’s heart, hands and feet in the world? Participating in the Epps Christian Center food packing and distribution event provides an opportunity for Christ Church parishioners to help those less fortunate in our community. Pastor Sylvia Tisdale, Director, serves over 200 people a free, hot to-go breakfast five days a week year-round at the Epps Center, 2300 N. Pace Blvd. In addition, two days a week she provides bags of non-perishable food to dozens of people from the surrounding neighborhoods. During summer, Pastor Sylvia also provides lunch and activities for children Monday through Friday. Since one in four Escambia County children live in poverty-level households, children need more access to nutritious food, especially during the summer months. While the Epps Center receives food from local food banks, the monthly allotments are not sufficient to cover an entire 30-day period.
The Christ Church Outreach Committee is using discretionary funds to obtain a Mobile Food Pantry from Feeding the Gulf Coast Food Bank. The pantry contains an assortment of nutritious food including meat, canned goods, bread, non-perishable items, and produce. The contents of the pantry are distributed to up to 100 families in a single day.
Please prayerfully consider volunteering to pack snack mix in the Parish Hall or to distribute the snack mix along with the contents of the food pantry at the Epps Christian Center.
Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available in the Parish Hall beginning July 15. For more information, contact Pam Tanner at
pamstanner@aol.com or Sarah Ballew at
msarahballew@att.net.
• Sunday, July 29 — Packaging Bags of Snack Mix
Following the 10:30 service in the Parish Hall
Volunteer to help package 375 bags of snack mix which will be distributed to people in need
on August 2 at the Epps Christian Center on Pace Blvd.
• Thursday, August 2 — Epps Christian Center Food Packing Distribution
8:00-10:00 AM (unload truck); 10:00 AM-Noon (bag & distribute food)
Participate in on-site outreach to help the people of our community who are in need of food.
20 volunteers needed for each shift; parental supervision required for youth under 14.

EPIC CHALLENGE BOOK CLUB
Wednesday, July 11 ~ 3:00 PM ~ Parlor
The July selection is a real treat!
Leonardo da Vinci
, by Walter Isaacson is, literally, a heavy book, printed on lovely glossy paper, which adds weight, but also does justice to the many marvelous illustrations included from Leonardo’s notebooks and his paintings. While full of information, the book is written in a conversational style, and is not difficult to read. The EPIC Challenge Book Club will meet to discuss on the SECOND Wednesday in July, so as not to compete with the 4th of July. See you on July 11th, 3:00 PM, in the Parlor. This is going to be fun!

Sunday Centering Prayer Group —
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplative prayer, in which we experience God's presence within us. We begin by taking a few minutes to go over the basic guidelines of the practice for anyone who is new. We then sit together in the 20-minute prayer period, followed by a brief time for sharing and intercessory prayer. All are welcome — newcomers and experienced practitioners.
This class meets in the Centering Prayer room on the administrative hallway.
The facilitator is Joan White.

ALTAR FLOWER MEMORIALS
Each week our worship service is enhanced with beautiful fresh flowers. After the Sunday services, the altar flower arrangements are reworked into smaller arrangements. These arrangements are delivered to members of our parish family that are unable to attend a Sunday service. The altar flowers are a memorial, a thanksgiving for an anniversary, a birthday, a new birth, or a thanksgiving for God's blessings. The donation is listed in the weekly bulletin. Forms to participate in this ministry are available on the information table in the Parish Office.
