Weekly Letter From Our Pastor

Make a Difference, Change the World
A ministry so quiet we barely noticed. Every month the church newsletter ran a short article inviting knitters to stop by the office and pick up yarn, along with patterns for making tiny stocking caps and miniature blankets for the local hospital's newborn nursery. Every month the same elderly woman would pick up the completed work and re-stock the box with fresh yarn.

After several years of watching this monthly pattern, one Sunday after worship we happened to be sitting next to each other at coffee. Evie, I asked, "What led you to leading this knitting ministry for newborns?" Her answer was one I wasn't prepared for. "Well," said Evie, "World War II came and went, and I was so busy working to support the war effort (she was a telephone line-woman), that I never got around to getting married. I've always liked little babies, and this knitting project brings me together with babies every week. Why do you ask, Pastor? Would you like to knit? I'll teach you!"

The whole month of April we're cracking open our Bibles to the book of Nehemiah to try and discover what this prophet of God can teach us about how we can begin seeing ourselves as world-changing leaders. This week in our, "Make a Difference, Change the world," series we turn to chapter two and build on the foundation we laid last Sunday. Our theme: "Three Thoughts of a world-changing leader."
