People with I/DD, DSPs in residential settings in Phase 1A of COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan
On Friday, Gov. Cuomo announced that individuals with I/DD who live in residential settings and the Direct Service Professionals who care for them will be included in Phase 1A of the COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan.
There are many details such as consent, quantity, and distribution that have to be worked out in the coming days.
This subject will be discussed on the Affiliate Update Call tomorrow, Dec. 15, 9 a.m.

CHOP grants have helped more than 1,000 people!
CP State’s Community Health Outreach Project has made life easier for more than 1,000 people with disabilities this year!
The Community Health Outreach Project, or CHOP, was established in January 2020 to provide financial assistance for the purchase of equipment, services, supplies, and other supports needed by individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other significant disabilities when all other funding opportunities have been exhausted.
The grant, under the administration of CP State’s Cindy Morris, has awarded approximately $680,000 to date.

CP State offering online session on I/DD and isolation
Isolation and segregation continue to impede to the full participation of individuals with disabilities and their families in the communities in which they live. CP State will offer “Addressing Loneliness and Social Isolation: The Key to a Better Life” on Thursday, December 17, from 2:30-4 p.m. Presented by Dr. Al Condeluci, this session will look at social isolation in the I/DD community. This is the first of a series of sessions that CP will be offering through its DDPC Rural Advocacy Grant. Call for focus group participants
Restraint and Seclusion Landscape Analysis, Technical Assistance Resource Center, and Advocacy Project
Beginning in April 2020, The Center for Discovery, Inc., in partnership with the Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) began a two-year, multi-faceted project to include a landscape analysis, stakeholder engagement, and the establishment of a technical assistance and resource center to provide best practice solutions to reduce the use of restraint and seclusion (R/S) practices across New York State agencies.
Please join one of their focus groups - providers, staff, parents/advocates, or individuals. The confidential surveys for each focus group can be accessed on the project's webpage.

OPWDD Division of Quality Improvement hosting IRMA webinar on December 18
On December 18, 10 a.m., DQI will host the webinar "COVID-19 Reporting and Entry into the Incident Report and Management Application (IRMA)."
This will be a “soup to nuts” overview of COVID-19 reporting and IRMA entry.

First vaccine administered in NY, Gov issues shutdown warning
This morning, Governor Cuomo joined healthcare professionals from the Northwell Health system via teleconference to show the first COVID-19 vaccination in New York. Sandra Lindsay, a critical care nurse and Director of Critical Care at Long Island Jewish Medical Center was the first person to be immunized in the State. Later in the press conference, the Governor warned that if the trajectory of hospitalization rates does not change the State could enter a second shut down of all non-essential businesses.
