Criminal Justice Spotlight
The NAACP San Diego Branch fully supports a City of San Diego Charter Amendment to give San Diego a more independent community body to investigate in-custody deaths and complaints of police misconduct.

We are looking for a big turnout at this meeting, to counter what is expected to be strong resistance from the SDPD. Want to do something for Civil Rights? This would be a big one.

It will occur on the 12th floor of the City Administration Building at 202 C Street in downtown San Diego. Use the "Civic Center" trolley stop.

Mr Earl McNeil did what any responsible person with a mental illness would do when he felt himself in distress; he called for help.

When he left National City Police custody, he was all but dead, to all appearances a victim of a savage beating.

Mr McNeil's family deserves all records, including videotapes, that might give insight into his last hours of consciousness.

NAACP San Diego Branch Mobile STEM Camp
This summer, your branch sponsored a mobile STEM camp for youngsters at Bell Middle School. They learned computer science, electrical engineering and entrepreneurship, all while having fun!

Experiencing Discrimination?
Your branch is here to help. If you have experienced discrimination, the very best way to get started is to fill out a Discrimination Complaint. It will get us all the basic facts we need to determine whether we can help you directly or need to refer you to other resources.
109th NAACP National Convention
July 14-18 in San Antonio, Texas

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold the 109th Annual Convention in San Antonio, Texas in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on July 14-18, 2018.

Known as one of America’s friendliest cities, San Antonio is a culturally rich and exciting city with plenty to do and see. It’s home to the Alamo, the famous River Walk, the Buffalo Soldiers and St. Philip’s College, the only college in the U.S. with distinct dual designation as a Historically Black College and a Hispanic Serving Institution.

The distinguished Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics for high school students will take place in San Antonio July 12-15, just before the NAACP National Convention. San Diego's Gold winner, Jor'Denay Collier, will be competing in Poetry Performance.

4th Annual Interfaith Prayer Vigil
Our first Interfaith Prayer Vigil was in 2014. In 2016, the NAACP adopted a resolution, proposed by the San Diego Branch, designating August 11th as a National Day of Mourning for African Americans killed in police interactions, and the Prayer Vigil is one way we honor that day.

Please join us as we gather for an evening of prayer to mourn all African Americans who have been killed by the police. We will also pray for other matters of concern including civil rights, jobs, education, health care, and housing.
