Julie Gunsheran is a new Communication instructor at DCCC this semester. Julie was born in Delaware, and moved to and moved to Pennsylvania when she was 10. “We went to school in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and could smell them making chocolate when outside for recess.”

Armed with a love of reading and teaching, Julie received her Master’s in English Education from Millersville University, one of the 14 schools that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. She then obtained a Graduate Certificate in Communication from Walden University, which allows her to teach another favorite area of hers, public speaking.

Adjunct Faculty Senate Seat
Hello Adjunct Faculty:

The faculty senate has one open seat for an adjunct curriculum faculty member. We are looking for nominations from anyone who is interested in running for this seat. Please email John Hart (john_hart@davidsonccc.edu) if you are interested in this senate seat before Monday, October 5th. Please include a brief description of who you are, and why you want to represent adjunct faculty. The Senate will vote on filling this position at the October 7th meeting. The results will be made public at the beginning of fall 2020 term 2. This person will represent adjunct faculty for one (1) academic year. They can run for consecutive terms if they wish to do so.

We need an adjunct representative on the faculty senate so we can hear your concerns and opinions. You have a unique perspective that may not be represented by other full-time senators and we want to advocate for all faculty. We need you!

If you have any questions, please email John Hart (john_hart@davidsonccc.edu), your faculty senate president.

Weekly Podcast/Video/Article Highlight

This article describes an implementation of Open Educational Resources at a community college in Nevada (Truckee Meadows). For those new to Open Educational Resources, it is generally designed to respond to the problem of high textbook prices by using an open licensing system (e.g., Creative Commons) that enables educators to share, modify and redistribute educational materials at no or minimal cost. Within the context of the story shared in this article, the success of this OER implementation started with the student government president who collaborated with the head of the Learning Commons and the college president to promote its use within the campus community.

  1. Visit the QM Workshop document to see the many different workshops you have available to you.
  2. Visit the QM Schedule webpage (be sure to select the Higher Ed tab) to see when the workshop is offered.
  3. Submit the QM Google Form to enter your workshop interest.

Please submit your interest in this opportunity asap but no later than Oct. 9. The CTL will explore opportunities for participants to share with colleagues. If you have questions regarding this opportunity, email ctl@davidsonccc.edu.
