US Department of Housing _ Urban Development Gov. Malloy Announces $10.5M in Small Cities Grants Awarded to 16 Municipalities to Combat Blight, Improve Neighborhoods, Increase Development  
Guilford and Madison on the list of recipients.
 
Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Connecticut Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Evonne M. Klein today announced that $10.5 million is being awarded to 16 municipalities in Connecticut to provide infrastructure upgrades and improvements with the goal of combating blight, improving neighborhoods, and increasing economic development.

Awarded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities program, which is administered by DOH with funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the grants are given to small towns that have a population below 50,000 residents and will advance projects that develop and preserve affordable housing, provide services to the most vulnerable residents in their communities, and also create and retain jobs. Quinnipiac contributes $756,000 to Hamden 
Quinnipiac University President John L. Lahey presented Hamden Mayor Curt Balzano Leng with a $756,881 check to the town on Wednesday.

"We have a strong commitment to Hamden," President Lahey said. "We thrive as a university, not in small part because of the support we get from the town of Hamden. It is our way of saying thank you and part of a good town-gown relationship." Read More

Long Wharf Responsible Growth Plan Image New Haven's plan for Long Wharf continues to evolve   
The vision of the future Long Wharf is taking shape.

Representatives from the development firm Perkins Eastman, who are generating a strategic plan for the area, have been gathering feedback from community stakeholders, fine tuning the look and character of the proposed new Long Wharf.
