Admin Letter

Dear WCA Families,

CMAS Testing/Activities:
CMAS testing started last week. We are very proud of the determination and focus our students have had during their testing sessions. Students have had a blast during the after testing activities. They have made tye-dye bandanas (students are welcome to bring their bandanas back to school to wear during post CMAS fun activities), played kickball, competed in a grade level dance-off, and more!

We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of the parent volunteers who have made the fun activities possible. We could not pull this off without all of you!

Read4Fund$:
There is only one more week left for our 2nd annual Read4Fund$ fundraiser. Last year, this was a pretty big success, and we have high hopes it will be again this year!  This is for Preschool - 7th grade. Please remember that we cannot guarantee that any donations will be deductible on your 2018 taxes. WCA is currently in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) federal nonprofit status.

Timeline:
Today: Mid Program Reading Logs due - Team U.S.A. Spirit Day!
April 19: Final Pledges and Reading Logs Due
May 2: Prize Day!

PTO Talent Show/Family Dance:
It was so much fun to see all of the AMAZING WCA talent during the auditions! We are excited to announce that we will have TWO shows due to the immense amount of talented students! The Talent Shows will be tomorrow, April 13, at 1:45pm and 5:30pm.

Following the 5:30pm Talent Show, there will be a Family Dance. Come hungry because there will be food truck vendors. This event will run from 6:30-9:00pm. We can't wait to see you all there!  Thank you to all of the outstanding PTO members who are making this event possible.

Sincerely,
WCA Admin

WCA at the State Geography Bee!

On Friday, April 6, the WCA Geography Bee winner, Veronika D, competed in the Colorado State Geography Bee at Denver University. Veronika did an amazing job answering questions correctly for six of the eight preliminary rounds. This score put her in fourth place for her preliminary room. Ultimately, with twelve perfect scores between the five preliminary rooms, Veronika did not move on to the final competition. Veronika represented WCA incredibly well, and showed her fantastic geography knowledge.

Congratulations on a job well done! Veronika is WCA's first state Geography Bee contestant. We are so proud of you!

Spring Musical

YOU ARE INVITED! This year, our musical theater and drama students will be performing  Beauty and the Beast on Thursday, April 26 at 6:30pm.
The fifth, sixth and seventh grade students who are participating have worked very hard on acting, singing and dancing for the past few months. Thank you to Mr. Ballard: Music, Mrs. Parker: Acting, and Mrs. Carpenter: Choreography. We hope to see  you there!

Message From the Foreign Language Dept

In alignment with our established goals in the foreign language department, the students will be completing language testing beginning in April. We will use this assessment to determine a baseline for proficiency level, and to help gauge each individual student's progress over time.  Foreign language testing will be aligned with ACTFL standards ( American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) . We plan to use this testing to help provide more differentiated instruction and to better meet the needs of each foreign language student. Foreign Language teachers will be communicating more details soon.

Thank you for the Outdoor Classroom, PTO!

2018-19 Preschool Program

For the 2018-19 school year, Aftercare will be available for WCA preschoolers from 3:15pm - 5:15pm Monday through Friday for $20/day. The registration fee is $75. Parents may pick and choose the days they want each week, and will need to provide their child with a light snack (no nut items) and a water bottle each time they are in Aftercare. This service is only a daycare. There will be no curriculum for Aftercare. If we have enough interest, we may consider offering Before Care from 6:30am - 8:30am at an additional fee.

For more information about the WCA Preschool Program, please go to our website. For questions about the Preschool Program, please email our Preschool Director, Treena Curts

PTO Talent Show/Family Dance & Teacher Appreciation Week

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aloha! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11 ! The theme this year is "Hawaiian Luau".  The WCA PTO is planning to spoil our wonderful teachers and staff each day of the week with festive decorations, tropical smoothies, treats, gifts and a Hawaiian food truck! It is sure to  be a "Tiki-riffic" week for the teachers and staff.

On Thursday, May 10 at 1:45pm, there will be a School Assembly featuring Polynesian dancers and hula lessons! This will also be a tropical attire dress down day for everyone (school appropriate of course)

P lease remember to recognize and appreciate your child's teacher this week. Your child could draw a picture, write a poem, thank you card, or letter for their teacher. A small gift, coffee, flower, treats or a gift card are just a few ideas. Let's show our "WCA Ohana" (family) how much we love them and appreciate everything they do all year!
