Can 1 Group Make a Difference?
In March a group of followers from the Seattle Bridge Church traveled once again to Baja again to partner with Strong Tower. On previous trips these brothers and sisters have worked with numerous ministries. This time the pastor asked if we could accommodate a more intimate experience for his sheep. An experience where they could get dirty and spend some more time building relationships with a single ministry.
For those of you have witnessed the vast network of Christ-centered ministries in Baja, you know that the locations and accommodations vary greatly. For those seeking an environment closer to what we have back in the States, there are plenty of places to choose. When we asked Pastor Steve what he was looking for, he responded that he trusted us and that his church wanted to serve where they were most needed. He told us that the living conditions were not a concern. This humble and gracious desire to serve where needed led us to a project in one of the most impoverished areas of Tijuana. An area that has grown up over an abandoned landfill.
After finding out what Albert, the local pastor needed there, we presented the building project to the Seattle Bridge Church. When Pastor Steve agreed to bring his contingent there to help finish the second story of a church building we were delighted. We expected to commute daily to this downtrodden part of Tijuana from a more comfortable location, but to our great surprise and pleasure, he felt that it would help build relationships if we stayed on site...on the floor...in an area that most people would never consider driving through.
We spent some treasured days there in Tijuana with our gracious hosts, the Agape Mision Mundial Church. We remodeled the second story there, which was a blessing not just to the church, but to a local family who has a child with critical medical needs for one of their children. Javier and his family now call this finished project their home. This child's safety and very life was at stake. We can't help everyone. But we made a difference to this family and
in this process we received blessings. We came to know and cherish friendships with Albert, Christina, Edira, Javier, Mary, Lupita, Leti, Obdula, and on and on. These are just names to most everyone reading this. But to this group from the Seattle Bridge they are brothers and sisters in Christ, forever bonded together by serving the least of these.
One anonymous member of this group asked the pastor how he could help personally. What does the church there need? Pastor Albert told him that they needed a new community kitchen they could use to help serve food to these people that otherwise often go unfed. But not just physical food. This church is all about feeding the soul and sharing the gospel.
We are pleased to announce that in early June that Strong Tower and the Agape Mision Mundial Church have broken ground on what will become the new community kitchen, fully furnished with enough cooking and seating capacity to serve well over 100 people. In just over two months, our Lord produced an amazing crop of fruit because his people decided to work together through love and humility.
What could Christ do through you if you simply said "Yes Lord!" and followed Him? Join us and let's produce some fruit together.
