The Cherry Hill Municipal Building and Department of Public Works will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2020 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Trash and recycling will be collected as normal.

On Monday, Mayor Angulo toured the Department of Public Works and Engineering complex. While there, the Mayor met with members of the staff and got an in-depth look at the various departments within DPW.

Mayor attends General Assembly Swearing-in
|
On Tuesday, Mayor Angulo joined elected officials from across the state at Trenton War Memorial for the swearing-in of the 219th New Jersey General Assembly Legislature. The Mayor was proud to see Cherry Hill’s state representative, Assemblyman Louis Greenwald, sworn-in as Majority Leader.

Mayor, Council members attend Vasilopita Celebration
|
Mayor Angulo, Council President Fleisher and Councilwomen Jacobs and Apell joined Father Christoforos and members of the Parish Council of the Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church at the Affirmation of the Greek Council, which was followed by the Cutting of the Vasilopita. The Vasilopita symbolizes the hope that the New Year will be filled with the sweetness of life, liberty, health, and happiness for all who participate.

Follow the Drinking Gourd

Join the Cherry Hill Recreation Department and the Cherry Hill African American Civic Association on
Saturday, January 18 at 3:00 p.m.
at the Croft Farm Art Center for Follow the Drinking Gourd: Following the Life of Harriet Tubman performance.
The Drinking Gourd was the slaves name for the North Star. The performance will detail the life of Harriet Tubman from the time she was a little girl, to adulthood, to her missions on the Underground Railroad and so much more! Watch as history will unfold right in front of your eyes.
Light refreshments will be served after the presentation. This event is free and open to the public.
Seating is limited.

Monthly Speaker Series for Senior Citizens

The Speaker Series is a monthly meeting to discuss topics of interest with our adults who are 55 years and older. The programs are open to the public and will be held the third Tuesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. in Room 208 in Town Hall, 820 Mercer Street.

Congratulations to Lorraine Maitland and Shirley Whitten who were chosen as the 2020 Super Seniors at the Annual Camden County Senior Luncheon. Lorraine and Shirley are both members of the Cherry Hill Senior Advisory Board.

10th Anniversary of the Cherry Hill Trails Program
|
Did you know that 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of the Cherry Hill Trails Program? We are fortunate to have miles of well-maintained trails throughout Cherry Hill. As part of the 10th Anniversary, you can walk or bike all 11 trails and participate in the Cherry Hill Trails Challenge. A Challenge Passport is available on the Cherry Hill website and at the Recreation Department in Town Hall. Challenge requirements are noted on the back of the Passport as are the prizes available to those completing all requirements at three different levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Together, the Bunker Hill trails comprise a total of approximately two miles of hiking opportunities which can be reached from the trail heads at Bobwhite Drive, Bunker Hill Drive, Woodleigh Drive, and Woodleigh Court. Kiosks with maps and other information are located at the Bobwhite Drive, Woodleigh Drive and Woodleigh Court trail heads. Essay, Poster, Video Contest for Black History Month
|
The Cherry Hill African American Civic Association is sponsoring an Essay, Poster, Video Contest for Black History Month 2020. The contest is open to all Cherry Hill Public School students in grades K through 12th. The essay, poster or video must depict a/an African American(s) in the Armed Forces and NASA. Submission of entries will be accepted from now until Friday, February 1, 2020.
Three monetary prizes at each level: Elementary grades: Kdg.-1st; 2nd-3rd; 4th-5th and Secondary grades: 6th-7th; 8th-9th; 10th-11th; 12th.

Cherry Hill Township and AARP have once again partnered to offer free tax-preparation assistance. Starting
February 8 through April 14 (building closed April 10), AARP will be available every Tuesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in
the N. John Amato Council Chambers (Room 208) at Town Hall.
Tax-Aide volunteers will help residents prepare their 2019 state and federal tax returns, as well as Homestead Benefit Credit and Property Tax Reimbursement forms. Electronic filing and direct deposit are available to help expedite returns. Residents are asked to bring a copy of their 2018 returns, all relevant tax statements, receipts and forms, Social Security card or SSA-1099, Photo ID, and PTR Form (if one was mailed to you).

Barclay Farmstead Art Contest

The Friends of Barclay Farmstead invites Cherry Hill sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students to enter an Art Contest. Three winners will be awarded $50.00 each.
Art Contest Information
- Contest is called Reflections on Barclay Farmstead
- Art may consist of any medium that can be framed such as pencil, watercolors, oil, ink, and collage.
- Submissions must be given to your school secretary no later than Monday, February 10, 2020.
- All Submissions become property of Barclay Farmstead
- Winning art entries will be framed and matted by Friends of Barclay Farmstead.
- The winning submissions will be proudly displayed above a mantel fireplace at Farmstead
- The art contest winners will be notified by email or through school office.
- Each winner will be presented with $50.00 cash on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Barclay Farmstead.

- Size of artwork: Largest 9 inches by 12 inches Smallest 8 inches by 8 inches (Anything between those sizes is fine.)

Camden County has a long history of leading recycling efforts in New Jersey. Camden County was the first in the state to mandate recycling in 1985. The state followed suit and mandated recycling state-wide started in 1987.
In the past 10 years Camden County, like many other places, started Single Stream Recycling, where residents combine all recyclable materials into one container for pickup. Over the years there have been several important changes to what items are acceptable and unacceptable in Single Stream Recycling programs. Recycling is always growing, and in many ways markets around the world can have a profound effect on our day to day behaviors.
Please remember, it is always a good idea to read labels and seek the most up to date information regarding your municipalities recycling program. What may have been recyclable yesterday, may not still be recyclable today.
