Dear St. George families,
A priest friend of mine, Fr. Steve Gallagher, recently shared this story with me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The new farm hand was very industrious and jovial, but not very religious. When the farmer wanted to take him along to church on Sunday the farm hand said, "I don't go to church. I cannot believe the so-called miracle on the altar. It is impossible that bread and wine are transformed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ!" So the farmer went to church alone. He was lost, deep in thought.
The next day he divided the work among the farm hands. One had to take care of the stable, another had to work in the field, a third had to tend to the animals, while yet another had to work in the woods.
The new hand, John, he took with him to the pasture. There lay a dung-hill. "John, you are to work at this dung-hill. One part of this you make into sweet black cherries, another part into red-cheeked apples, and another part into beautiful, sweet-smelling roses and fragrant red carnations." John roared out loud with laughter."There is nothing to laugh about," said the farmer.
John just laughed louder and said, "He has to be a real wizard who can do what you just said. If one were able to change manure and earth into apples, pears, cherries, corn and flowers, he would certainly have to be some kind of superman."
The farmer replied, "Indeed, but are you blind? Look a little bit closer and you can see life in nature. Don't you see that the level, fertilized earth will change here into fine roses and carnations; there into golden corn; here into luscious carrots; and there into appetizing apples! Have you never seen the egg change into a chicken, the acorn into a great tree? Those are changes which take place daily before our eyes."
John nervously tugged at his vest as the farmer finished, "John, whoever can do that can do more. He can certainly change bread and wine into the body and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ!"

TARDINESS
St. George School Tardy Policy has been developed to emphasize the importance of each student being in the classroom for the entire day, as well as arriving on time to school every day. Learning the responsibility of getting to class on time is an integral part of St. George School's standard of excellence, which prepares students for success.
Instructional time is viewed as a precious resource. We view tardiness as a problem.
Thank you for your support in ensuring students make maximum use of class time and learn to be punctual. School begins at 7:45 a.m. Beginning the day promptly is important and demonstrates commitment to success.

ACT ASPIRE Testing
Monday, April 16th - Friday, April 20th
8:00am - 11:00am
By working together, we can make your child's test experience positive and successful. Here are some suggestions that you can do to help your child succeed:
- Make sure your student gets a good nights rest.

Make sure your student eats a healthy breakfast at home or at school.

Make sure your child arrives at school on time.
Students who are tardy will not be able to join their class once testing has begun.

Students are asked to have extra sharpened #2 pencils in pencil bags, if needed, during testing.

Students should come to school with something to read each day.

Don't schedule routine doctor or dentist appointments during testing times.
-
If a student is absent on a testing day, the school does not guarantee that students will be able to make up missed ASPIRE Tests and that only Reading and Math will be made up when possible.
- If students are allowed to make up a missed ASPIRE test, it must be due to an emergency and they must have a doctor's note. Orthodontic and dentist appointments are not considered an emergency.

Encourage your student to do their best.

Lagniappe: Take a moment to write an encouraging note to your student for the first day of testing.

Plans are underway for making this year's Spirit Day the best ever!
We ask parents to please consider signing up for at least 2 fifty minute shifts.
There are many spots available to volunteer!
Child protection completion is required.

ST. GEORGE SCHOOL SUMMER CAMPS
JUNE 4 - 8, 2018
St. George School is happy to once again offer summer camps for our students entering 1st - 8th grades, as well as incoming kindergarten students.
Information packet and registration forms may be accessed

- Camp sessions for students entering grades 1 - 8 are $130.
- Camp sessions for upcoming kindergarten students are $150.
- Morning and afternoon sessions are available.
- Lunch Bunch will also be offered for an additional $25.
- Parents should print and complete the registration form and return it with payment to the school office.
- Deadline to register for summer camps is Friday, May 4, 2018.
- Shortly after May 4th, parents of registered campers will receive an email from the camp instructor. This email will include details specific to the camp.
These
camps will be held in July. See the brochure links above for details.

All families are encouraged to monitor your students' cafeteria purchases with an online account at
www.myschoolbucks.com. There you can set up alerts and make payments by credit card or bank draft. It is not necessary to make payments in order to set up an account. We will always accept check or cash payments at school.
