GOEQUAL:
EQUALITY IN SPORTS WORLD WIDE!

Katherine and Marta show their support for the GoEqual Movement!

Women´s World Cup is on! The big news is that there is a feeling that womens' sports are finally becoming front and center in the world view. However, why don't the wages and sponsorships reflect this new reality? Well, that´s what Marta Vieira da Silva is questioning with her Go Equal movement. She aims to raise awareness of the financial disparity between genders. Marta holds the record for most goals scored at both the men´s and women´s FIFA World Cup tournaments, and she is the only footballer of any gender to score at five different World Cup competitions.

Fact: In the level of investment and coverage, female sports remain well behind male sports. One estimate found that between 2011 and 2013, women's sports sponsorships accounted for just 0.4% of all sports sponsorships.
(Forbes)

Fact: the number of women's sport sponsorship deals increased by 47% between 2013 and 2017, with the average deal size rising by 38% during this period. (Marketing Week)

Fact: Almost half of the professional players around the world have to abandon their careers to work in a field that pays enough to care for their family. This scenario is particularly common for female athletes.

"We are passionate about soccer. We watch it. We cheer. We buy soccer shoes, and we go to the field. However, for any sport to grow, support is needed. If the brands that make this sport so incredible do not believe in us, how can we all believe in the future of women in sports? It's not about comparing. It's about valuing. Millions. Billions of women around the world that practice sports every day. They dream of being recognized. So they are not going to rest until they play this game. Are you coming with us?"
- Instagram post for #GoEqual

According to Luciana De Michelis Mendonca, IFSPT board member and the first female president of Brazil's Sports Physical Therapy Association, SONAFE, "Women´s football is much better structured today than it was ten years ago. Still, it needs more investment. The GoEqual movement objective is to assure that women's football gains more support through sponsorship, resulting in more broadcast opportunities and higher wages for the hard-working players."
SONAFE's female members are actively supporting this initiative!

SIXTH SALZBURG SPORTS PHYSIOTHERAPY SYMPOSIUM IS A GREAT SUCCESS

By Karl Lochner, Chair of Sports Physiotherapy Network Austria
A group of attendees outside the venue.

The sixth Sports Physiotherapy Symposium, "Young Athletes Development - Load Management, Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation"
took place at Salzburg on 11 - 13 May 2019, hosted by Salzburg University. The symposium was co-organized by the Department of Sport Science & Kinesiology, the Austrian Sports Physiotherapy Network, and spt-education (a continuing professional development programme). It was supported by former IFSPT board member Mario Bizzini (who also served as a member of the symposium's scientific committee). The symposium was fully booked, with a total of 300 participants attending from eight different countries (with Austria, Germany, and Switzerland most strongly represented). With load management, injury prevention and rehabilitation as the symposium's general theme, three important competencies of sports physical therapists were covered at the Symposium. Invited representatives of the Austrian Ministry of Sports attended at the symposium.

Speakers shown in the Youth Academy.

Prior to the opening ceremony, James O'Brien from Red Bull Youth Academy invited the speakers to visit the highly impressive Youth Academy for soccer and ice hockey, which offers a complete range of facilities for prevention, training, and rehabilitation procedures.

Karl Lochner, Barbara Kern, Gerald Mitterbauer, and Mario Bizzini.

In his opening statement, Professor Erich Müller, Vice Rector of Salzburg University and head of the scientific committee, said that he was very proud to welcome the top researchers in this field to the symposium. Karl Lochner, chair of the Austrian Sports Physiotherapy network praised the perfect cooperation among the organizing partners.

The symposium had three objectives: lectures; "science-to-practice" lectures, and "science meets practice" workshops.
