Dear OLMC Parents,

I am pleased to announce that tomorrow, the majority of our students will be able to prepare their hearts for the Resurrection of the Lord by making a sacramental confession. Hopefully, the children will return home tomorrow afternoon with a genuine desire to live virtuously and feel motivated to cultivate habits that draw them closer to God. 

I would just like to issue a reminder that there will be no school this Friday due to a staff retreat. This event has been planned for many months, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to provide our staff with time of reflection and extra prayer.

Next Monday, March 16, marks the official end of the 3rd quarter, and report cards will be sent home on March 25. March 19 is the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Husband of Mary. The students will not receive any written homework on that day because of the celebratory nature of a solemnity. In addition, OLMC students will have an out-of-uniform day (athletic pants can be worn) and our students will be encouraged to wear red to school. Why red? Red is the color traditionally associated with the celebration of St. Joseph’s Day. Since the students will have no written homework, I hope many families will be able to join the parish community for the St. Joseph’s Day Traditional Italian Feast in the Parish Hall from 6:30 -- 8:30 pm. Lastly, I would like to share some safety updates/reminders from our OLMC Assistant Principal, Mr. Fletcher:

1. We successfully completed our bi-annual tornado drill this week. The students performed amazingly! I would recommend that each family revisit their "home plan" for natural disasters. Spring is a higher risk time of the year for dangerous weather conditions.

2. We are continuing to monitor and plan for the effects of a possible community spread of COVID-19 virus. The school is reading and implementing the recommendations from the CDC and Indiana Health Department each day. We are also in discussions with our deanery principals and diocesan leadership. We do not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our school community. We ask that parents continue to communicate with us any changes in health status within their families and follow the recommendations that have been published by the school and government agencies .

3. I will be attending a Hamilton County Safety commission meeting next Monday. This is our regular meeting but I'm sure the topic COVID-19 will be at the forefront of the conversation. I will pass along any new information I learn.

Raider Pride:

Christianna Dunasky qualified for the Indiana State Swim Meet at Divisionals Sunday by Swimming a 1:06.59 in the 100 Backstroke - Congratulations Christianna!!  She's going to State!!

Joseph Dunasky took 1st Place in the CYO City Meet Sunday at Roncalli High School for the second year in a row, winning the 77 pound Division. Joseph pinned all his opponents on the way to the Championship! Congratulations Joseph!!

All items from the gym lost & found have been brought to the Parish Hall. The bins are overflowing!

Anything left on Thursday, March 19 will be donated to the Used Uniform Committee or the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center.

Please keep Scrip in mind with Easter & Spring Break fast approaching.

Stephanie will be selling Scrip in the atrium each Thursday during carpool, 2:30-3:15.

Attention Musicians!

Join the OLMC Arts Council  on March 24th at 6pm as we perform for the residents at Woodland Terrace nursing home in Carmel. Each student may select a piece of music of their choosing. Previous examples include piano, guitar, and violin, but any instrument is welcome.

Touch of Green

Students may wear green accessories   with their school uniform   (no jeans) Tuesday, March 17 , in celebration of the feast of St. Patrick. Accessories include socks, pins, necklaces, etc. No fingernail polish, wigs or hair color please.  

Red for St. Joseph

Thursday, March 19, is an out of uniform day. Jeans, khakis or a thletic pants can be worn and our students will be encouraged to wear red to school. Leggings should not be worn as pants but are acceptable under a skirt or dress.

Donate Flowers & Join Us for St. Joseph Feast:

March 19, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.; Parish Hall

This celebration is open to all families and the community at no charge, though there will be a free-will offering. One part of the rich history of this feast is to have a beautifully decorated alter. For that, we will need your support again this year. 

We would appreciate any donation of flowers to decorate our tables and alter. We will be collecting these flowers in the atrium on Wednesday, March 18 ^th and Thursday morning. Buckets with water will be there for loose bouquets, and if your arrangement has a vase, it can be set on the table next to them. Please do not donate vases that you would like back, as these flowers are generally taken to nursing homes when we are finished with them.

Moms of Our Lady Prayer Group:

We are a drop-in prayer group each Friday at 9:30, hosted in the home of an OLMC mom. All are welcome to join us - just show up!

Jim Beckman serves as the executive director of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Jim also is the executive director of ImpactCenter, a nonprofit dedicated to leadership development in the Catholic Church and serves as an adjunct professor for the Augustine Institute, teaching on leadership and discipleship. He and his wife, Meg, live in Oklahoma City with their five children.
