Young adults claim camp as church home
Alive in the church from Living Lutheran
|
Editor’s note: “There are no young people here” is a common refrain as some worry about the future of the church. But young adults are indeed active across the ELCA and have powerful faith stories to share. This series will highlight young leaders who are boldly pursuing God’s call and extending the ministry of the church.
We offer our deep gratitude for Rainbow Trail and Sky Ranch offering a faith community for our young adults! Christ's Church, Better Together!

Theological Conference Registration Open

What does it mean to be a healthy, transformed leader in a rapidly-changing, stressed world? How do we have more productive conversations that will create the communal accountability and life-giving commitments we affirm as public leaders in the church?
Guided by the framework of Theory U: Leading from the Future as it Emerges, we will explore together our assumptions, our understanding of relationships, and possibilities for new ways of being community. Using Vision & Expectations and the recent draft of Trustworthy Servants as a starting point, our time together will seek to create a deeper understanding of healthy leadership and name life-giving commitments for leaders of the Rocky Mountain Synod.
Together we will ask: What is the community we want to create? What is it we want to be accountable for?
Grounded throughout will be reflections on restoration, resilience and community building by Rev. Tracy Howe to center ourselves in the creative, redeeming, active love of God.

Building Momentum and Spring Wells
|
|
Leaders at Grace, Colorado Springs are building passion and momentum for ELCA World Hunger in their congregation. Their original goal in 2018 was $714. But through the work of their Hunger Team and generosity of individuals and the congregation, they raised approximately $2124!
Inspired by those gifts, for 2019 they set a goal of $2500 to pay for a spring well through ELCA Good Gifts. Extending their campaign through Pentecost,
they received over $5000, enough to pay for two spring wells! Hunger Team co-chair Jan Whittet shared that "
as a team and as a church we are so excited!". The team is hoping to partner with other congregations in Colorado Springs to increase engagement in ELCA World Hunger.
We are Christ's Church, Better Together for the sake of the world!

Excellence in Leadership is focusing on
five
schools of thought/thinkers to engage our imaginations for effective and meaningful leadership in the church and in our lives. So far, we have introduced Emotional Intelligence and Family Systems Theory. Here is a short synopsis of a third topic,
Adaptive Leadership:
- The world we live in is changing rapidly and the church is not immune to that change. Adaptation to these new environments are key to maintaining a healthy system. Adaptive leadership is a framework developed by Dr. Ron Heifetz and Marty Linsky to help individuals and organizations adapt and thrive in just these circumstances. By deciding what is essential and what is expendable, the usage of this theory assists in helping leaders meet the future boldly through taking smart risks, experimenting with new ideas, and innovation.
Throughout the program, Excellence in Leadership will invite participants to become familiar with use the skills of adaptive leadership to explore, experiment, and implement new ideas within their own contexts.
Sign up today for the Excellence in Leadership program to begin this journey of healthy leadership. The Early Registration deadline is July 15. Visit the EIL website

RMS Digital Book Discussion Series
|
Across our Rocky Mountain Synod we gather in many ways. Our changing church, growing technological capacity, and creative questions are leading us to consider how we gather as the Church Together, what matters, and what new opportunities we might explore:
- How do we gather and why does it matter?
- What does it mean to create community in a digital world?
- What makes a gathering meaningful, impactful, and transformational?
- How do we create gatherings that are transformational, both as a synod and in our local ministries?
- What makes a gathering meaningful, impactful, and transformational?
- What might we need to be doing differently? What are the essential elements in being the Church Together?
Four will books to guide our conversation:
How will we gather for conversation?
- An on-going conversation via a digital discussion board on Basecamp
- Live conversations via ZOOM
- In-person conversations at the fall Theological Conference
- Invite Deacon Erin Power to an adult forum, Bible Study, or small group in your congregation or ministry!
