Coronavirus and your Golf Business
Be informed and Prepared
With the growing concern surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the country, the NGCOA Canada’s goal with this communication is to provide timely and relevant information to assist with limiting the impact that COVID-19 might have on your business and in your community.

With the rapidly changing situation across the country, education of your employees and customers, and giving them the tools to protect themselves is key in mitigating the impact of COVID-19.

As a business owner, you have an obligation to provide a safe workplace for your employees under the Canada Labour Code. Education is the first line of defence in preventing exposure to and spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.

Below are some best practices and general resources for your golf operation. The NGCOA Canada has also created a page on our website where you can find all of the information listed below as well as new information as it becomes available. Information can be accessed through the link on the home page of ngcoa.ca .
Best Practices for Golf
FOR YOUR STAFF
  • Talk about the virus and its implications on daily activities in your staff meetings; every employee must understand the critical role they play in maintaining a healthy workplace and protecting your customers.
  • Educate staff to recognize the symptoms of COVID-19 in each other and your customers.
  • Establish a communication plan to keep your employees informed and updated on issues affecting the workplace.
  • Institute a policy that requires employees to tell you when they’ve been exposed to any highly communicable illness, and then direct them to the local health agency for appropriate testing.
  • Respect the recommended social distancing that is being encouraged by the Public Health Agency of Canada and limit person-to-person contact with other employees and customers.
  • Clean computer keyboards, POS Systems, and telephone equipment; especially those used publicly.
  • Determine if your insurance policy covers lost business as a result of a designated state of emergency (this coverage is similar to losses due to national disasters).
FOR YOUR FACILITY AND CUSTOMERS
  • Ensure appropriate signage is present throughout your facility.
  • Provide necessary sanitation supplies and personal protection equipment.
  • Ensure hand washing signage is present at all wash stations.
  • Provide hand sanitizer stations for both staff and guests in multiple locations throughout the facility, including golf carts.
  • Increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all counter surfaces, door handles, and any other surface frequently touched by staff and customers.
  • Educate staff on hygiene, sanitation and food handling, and its impact of preventing the spread of communicable diseases.
  • Limit the use of shared table items (salt and pepper shakers, ketchup bottles, etc.) or clean them frequently, and consider changing self-served buffets to provide staff to serve.
  • Regularly sanitize equipment and provide customers with reminder signage and supplies necessary for post-use cleaning. NGCOA Canada will be preparing some digital templates that you can download and print for your operation which will be available on the website shortly.
  • Wash and sanitize golf carts prior to checking out, giving special attention to touch-points on the cart.
  • Ensure beverage carts are cleaned and sanitized before reuse; sanitize all touch-points of both employee and customer.
