Online Sunday Worship

Join us for Sunday morning worship on our Facebook page and website  at 9am and again at 10:45am. Bulletins for each week’s service will be sent along with the Grace Notes weekend issue, and will be posted on the website alongside the video for the service. If you miss the 9am or 10:45am video streams, you can always go back and watch later. You can access the bulletin for this Sunday HERE.

In-Person Sunday Worship

Weather permitting, Grace will hold outdoor, in-person on Sunday, November 15th, at 4:30pm. We will meet on the yard just behind the pavilion and the community gardens. In an effort to protect the health of our neighbors, participants must sign up in advance, and we will be limiting the attendance for this service to 30 households. You will receive an email confirming successful registration, and if the service is over capacity at the time you sign up, you will receive priority for next week's service.

Each household unit is asked to keep 12-15 feet distance from your closest neighbor on the lawn. Please wear a mask, and bring your own lawn chair or blanket. If you are unable to bring your own chair, please email David Burman at dburman@saygrace.net, and we can arrange to have one available for you. Bug spray is highly recommended!

Worshippers will receive communion in one kind only (bread).  The priests will wear masks and gloves while we distribute communion, and all who receive communion are asked to keep their masks on while communion is being distributed, and then slip their masks off to consume the wafers once you’ve returned to your seats, returning your masks to your faces one you have eaten the bread.

Sign up on the homepage of our website, www.saygrace.net

Grounds Work Day and Community Garden Meeting
Thanks to Mickey and Beth Myers for working up the new mulched area around trees on the NE corner of our church lawn, out by Brainerd Road. We deeply appreciate your work, and long term investment in Grace's trees.

1. Grounds Work Day. There will be a 'distanced' grounds work- day onSunday, November 15th beginning at 9 am.We will be doing weeding, trimming, and mulching, variously.
-- We will wear masks when working closely; this is not usual.
-- We will not provide a meal. Please bring your own lunch and beverage to enjoy in the Pavilion.
-- We will also have a team labeling trees, as long promised. Most, but not all the metal label stands are in place. We will label the trees until we run out of either labels or trees. Lisa and Mike Shillinger will lead 'Team Label.'

3.  Brainerd by Grace (B2G) Community Garden Mandatory Close Out Options. All garden bed renters are required to do one of the following bySunday, 15 November. Due to COVID, we are giving several options:

 a. Email Lisa Lemza at lemzala@aol.com if you intend to keep your bed. OR,
 b. Come and meet on Sunday, 15 November in the flesh, at the Pavilion at 4:00 pm. OR,
 c. Attend the Zoom Meeting launched from the Pavilion at 4:00 pm. Details have gone out to community garden members already.
Let's hope the Zoom works from there, stay tuned!
 d. If you are interested in acquiring a garden bed this spring, contact Lisa or Kristina Shaneyfelt.

Family Promise
Nov 29-Dec 26 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday meals covered! We just need Sun, Mon, Fri, Sat!

Skeeter reports progress in scheduling folks to bring dinner for Family Promise between November 29 and December 26, but we have 7 nights to feed our guests at Family Promise and only 3 are covered. Right now there are 2 adults and 2 teen aged girls. That might mean 3 adults if the overnight host isn't included in the 2.
It's easy. Make a phone call and have a meal delivered. Pick something up and drop it off yourself. Or, show off your cooking skills and prepare a meal yourself.

Tues-Thurs is covered. Richard and I will cooperate to do what doesn't get covered, but we'd prefer not to cover for 4 nights.

If you are able to help, please contact Skeeter (skeeterellen55@gmail.com).
Advent Diocesan Book Discussion
Bishop Brian will be joined by author Greg Garrett for the first three weeks of Advent as they discuss Garrett's latest book, A Long, Long Way: Hollywood's Unfinished Journey from Racism to Reconciliation. Sessions will be held on Zoom on Monday November 30, December 7, and December 14 at 7:00 pm.

Outreach Opportunities
Seraphim Bush

Grace's alternative to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program, dating from a lapse that left us off the SA's list: Donations go to residents of area group homes, a chronically overlooked and under-cared-for group.

To make it simple and safe in this season of pandemic, we are asking parishioners to donate one or more $25 Walmart gift cards. If someone wants to add a little something, all residents could use shampoo, body wash, toothpaste and deodorant. We need 34 Walmart cards. If someone wants to spend more than $25, we ask they get additional Walmart cards in increments of $25. If we get more than 34 cards, we will divide them among the group homes to be a "house" card to benefit all the residents in the house.

All cards and toiletries can be dropped off at the church during "office" hours or during the food pantry hours or at any in-person Sunday services. If someone can't do those times, they can email Tom Carroll (brownlow@epbfi.com)
 or Jerry (jevans1958@epbfi.com) to set a time to meet them at church; the postal office could also be called into service! Gifts don't have to be wrapped but a gift bag would be appreciated.

All gifts should be at the church by December 20th at the latest.

Brainerd Food Pantry

As part of our food ministry at Grace we are teaming with several other churches to provide the Brainerd Food Pantry to be housed at Brainerd United Methodist church. Distribution of food will occur on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month beginning October 14. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to unpack the delivery from the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and pack non-perishable food items on the Tuesday before distribution as well as to provide a variety of help on the day of distribution. If you are interested in volunteering for this ministry please contact David Stanislawski at David.stanislawski@chattanoogastate.edu for additional information and to indicate availability. You can find out more about the food pantry on its website:  https://brainerdfoodpantry.com or on its Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/brainerdfoodpantry.
Food Pantry
This week, our pantry volunteers bagged food for 66 -- 40 adults and 26 children. Thanks to extremely generous donations from both Grace parishioners, our Belvoir neighbors, and those who gave $$ that allowed some supplements to be purchased from Aldi and Sam's, last week's frighteningly bare shelves recovered and were even burgeoning in some areas. We remain in awe of the generosity that keeps us able to provide aid week after week; without our donors and our volunteers, we'd be handing out single peanuts and perhaps a couple of granola bars here and there; we are equally grateful to our devoted and apparently tireless volunteers -- Linda Wideman, Jim Harris, Richard Hyatt, Gail Dooley, and Vivian Dodds -- who wrestle supplies, plastic bags, loaves of bread both fresh and frozen, and never lose equanimity.

* Hearty soups, beef stew
* beanie weenies
* peanut butter (10-oz. jars preferred)
* canned corn
* pop tarts
* pudding cups
* Chef Boyardi ravioli or similar, in cans
* saltine crackers

Blessings on all who keep us supplied, from the staff and from those we help!
Lectio Divina Zoom Retreat (St. Mary's)
Sunday, November 15, 1:30-4:30 p.m. -- Lectio Divina, literally “divine reading,” is an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures. This introductory retreat, led by the Rev. Tom Ward, will focus on the building blocks of a developing and sustaining a contemplative life in the world. During Lectio Divina, the practitioner listens to the text of the Bible with the “ear of the heart,” as if one is in conversation with God. Lectio Divina includes moments of reading (lectio), reflecting on (meditatio), responding to (oratio) and resting in (contemplatio) the Word of God with the aim of nourishing and deepening one’s relationship with the Divine. Periods of silent Centering Prayer will be a part of the retreat.

No prior experience with Lectio Divina or Centering Prayer is required to attend this retreat.
This event takes place via Zoom; to participate, you must have internet access and a computer or tablet with an internet connection.

Partial scholarships are available for Centering Prayer events; please email Kylene McDonald for more information.

You will receive additional information, including the Zoom link, at least 48 hours before the beginning of the event.

You can register at https://www.stmaryssewanee.org/events/lectio-divina/ or call 1.800.728.1659. Cost is $50.
