ADVOCACY MATTERS
The
Pennsylvania Museum Preservation Act remains in the House State Government Committee awaiting action. Pennsylvania's House has been meeting this week, and the Senate returns to session on April 16.
The House has put together a budget bill,
House Bill 2121
, and this bill has been referred to the House Appropriations Committee before its third and final consideration. The bill would provide $451,000 less than Governor Wolf's budget proposed for the operating budget for Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC). PA Museums supports the higher allocation proposed in the Governor's budget, and we will continue to keep an eye on this bill. House Bill 2121 does provide $2 million for the PHMC's Cultural and Historical Support Grants program. It is not clear whether the House and Senate will amend and advance House Bill 2121. The Senate could introduce a budget bill as well.
PA Museums will join with our advocacy partners in Harrisburg for an Arts and Culture Advocacy Day on
May 2, 2018
. We hope many of you will join us in this important work.
Let us know
if you would like to visit your elected officials' offices in Harrisburg on May 2.
Governor Wolf has announced that May 2018 will be
Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Month. We will be participating with other partners and our members in a social media campaign. Please see our section of this newsletter for more details about how you or your organization can get involved.

SUPPORT FOR YOUR WORK
The
Blue Star Museums initiative will kick off in 2018 for military families. Sign your museum up now to participate with many other Pennsylvania museums. This collaboration, about to be in its eighth year, can increase the visibility of your museum and connect it to a national museum marketing effort.
MAY 2018 IS PRESERVATION MONTH
Governor Wolf has named May 2018
Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Month. PA Museums will work with other partners including the PHMC's State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to mark the occasion, and we are asking for help from our members who are involved in historic preservation activities. We are looking for a handful of stories from our membership to share as part of a month long awareness campaign. We are looking for positive new stories, an image (jpeg preferred), a few sentences about the project, and a link to where more information is available. Please
submit your stories by 4/23. Thank you for your assistance with this effort!

PA Museums' conference will kick off on Sunday, April 15, and before it does, we have made a few changes to our program.
Sunday, April 15, 2018
2-3 p.m.
Instead of touring the Pasto Agricultural Museum as previously publicized, we will now tour the Penn State All-Sports Museum.
At the
Penn State All-Sports Museum, you’ll encounter the athletic history and heritage of one of the greatest universities in the nation. The Museum is an interactive, two-level, 10,000 square foot testament to the world-class success and tradition of Penn State student-athletes - both on the field and in the classroom.
The Museum features exhibits focusing on Penn State’s unique approach to intercollegiate athletics as well as 31 current varsity sports and three that have been discontinued.
Enter this address into your GPS for directions: 1 Beaver Stadium, University Park, PA 16802
The museum is located inside the southwest corner of Penn State Beaver Stadium at the intersection of of Porter Road and Curtin Road. A long canopy leading from Curtin Road marks the Museum entrance. Porter Road may be accessed from East College Avenue or Park Avenue, then turn on Curtin Road and park in Lot 44 across from the museum. Parking is free on the weekend.
Monday, April 16, 2018
1:30 p.m.
Joe Dunn, President and CEO of Huntington T. Block Insurance Agency, Inc. will be participating as the broker in the session "A Registrar and a Broker Walked into a Bar..."
