Work with R.I.C.H. Houses to Expand to Older Adults
|
The
USF College of Nursing has launched its second
Leaders in Care giving campaign to raise money to fund an expansion of the Peds to Succeed program, which is a partnership between the Tampa Police Department's R.I.C.H. Houses and the nursing school.
The new project,
EnRICHed Families: Improving Health Outcomes for At-Risk Communities, will address health needs of older adults in the Sulphur Springs and Robles Park communities.

Offering Advice on a Doctoral Degree

The
USF College of Nursing
held a question-and-answer session on Sept. 18 to encourage nursing students to pursue a doctoral degree.
A panel of faculty, student advisors, and current doctoral students greeted the 20 prospective doctoral students.
The group talked about the PhD, DNP, and CRNA programs at USF.

Submissions for Honor-A-Bull Student Veteran Award Due

Time is ticking to recognize a high-achieving and community engaged student veteran.
The
USF Office of Veteran Success is seeking nominations for its annual
Honor-A-Bull Awards.
Applications are due Oct. 11.
Students are evaluated based on their academic performance, community engagement, and relationship between military service and student success.

Mark your calendars. The annual
USF Health Research Day is scheduled for February 21 at the Marshall Student Center. The event features original research from students, faculty and staff. Organizers will accept research abstracts for the event beginning October 29 through December 12.

Getting Out: Escape from Sepsis
|
Bull Nurse students had the chance to participate in the Sepsis Escape Room at BayCare's
St. Joseph's Hospital in September, and the group of students finished the challenge in record time.
Hospital staff were impressed by how well and how quickly the team navigated the experience.

Nursing Students Named WLP Scholars

Congratulations to USF College of Nursing students
Kailey Taylor and
Elizabeth Yuravich for being among the 2019-2020 USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy scholars.
Taylor, a PhD student, received the
Donald and Ruth Anderson Memorial Scholarship in Nursing. Yuravich, who is in the BS-DNP nursing program, was awarded the
Anne Marie Campbell Scholarship. Both awards are for $1,000.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
|
A month-long celebration highlighting our connection to the Latinx community kicked off Sept. 18 with the
Salsa Con Salsa event in the USF Health Rotunda.
The
USF College of Nursing treated passersby to chips and salsa and dance lessons showcasing the Latinx culture.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from mid-September to mid-October. On Sept. 25 health-related Latinx scholarly works were displayed.
Look for more events in the coming weeks.

Professor Joins Academic Advisory Board

USF College of Nursing assistant professor
Rayna Letourneau, PhD, RN
, has been selected to be part of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) academic task force advisory board.
The task force, led by Dr. Gerry Altmiller from the College of New Jersey, has about 100 members. The QSEN project works to improve nursing education and the quality and safety of the health care systems they work in.

Kudos to USF College of Nursing's
Zuzana Moore, who volunteered to answer phones at the USF call center, which was activated during Hurricane Dorian.
Moore, an academic services administrator in the CRNA program, lent a helping hand, because organizers were looking for people with mental health first aid training, which Moore completed last year.

Hurricane Dorian relief efforts kicked into high gear with a
"Pizza and Packing Party" on Sept. 19 hosted by USF Health.
Volunteers sorted and packed more than 30 boxes of donated goods, including medicines, baby food, and cleaning supplies, that were loaded on a plane bound for the Bahamas, along with three physicians from
USF Health.

College of Nursing Graduate Students Serve as Nursing Liaisons
|
The
USF College of Nursing has four representatives in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing's
Graduate Nursing Student Academy (GNSA).
Chyanne Dix, Reginald Castor, Rebecca Koerner, and Brooke Sliman are all GNSA liaisons who serve as the point of contact for fellow students, linking Bull Nurses to all of the resources and services available through the organization.
The group supports graduate students through leadership opportunities, networking, scholarships, and webinars.
