Congratulations Winners of the 5th Annual Nutshell Games!
The annual Nutshell Games took place over a new online format this past Saturday, November 7th. Kudos to all graduate student presenters! Five prizes were awarded this year, four of which recognized IGC fellows: Amber Wendler, Abby Lewis, Bennett Grooms, and Sara Teemer Richards.

Dr. Ashley Dayer - Fish and Wildlife Conservation

Dr. Dayer is a conservation social scientist. Her research program focuses on understanding people’s and organizations’ conservation behavior, especially related to private lands habitat conservation, human-wildlife conflict, endangered species management, citizen science, and conservation funding.

Haha! Science Comedy Night with Kasha Patel
Need some good funny?! Science on Tap NRV is hosting Kasha Patel, science comedian, journalist, and communicator with the NASA Earth Observatory. Kasha has backgrounds in chemistry and science journalism, and performs stand-up regularly, including at the DC Comedy Club in Washington, D.C.

On Thursday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m., join for a special performance followed by a conversation about the role of comedy in communicating science.

In this webinar, Jonathan Rutter (Research Tecnhnician, FWC) shares some insights from the social sciences on ethno-racial diversity in wildlife viewing and conservation. At the center of the webinar is a study of the relationship between race, ethnicity, and birdwatcher specialization based on a large, national survey of eBird users. A short panel discussion includes GCC affiliate Dr. Ashley Dayer (FWC) and Dr. Jennie Duberstein (Sonoran Joint Venture), who are co-authors on the study.

The finding of a new species, Kataigidodon venetus, has been published in the journal Biology Letters by lead author Ben Kligman, an IGC fellow and doctoral student in the Department of Geosciences.
