Happy Spring!
Our Specialized Education Department has been busy projecting school building needs for next year, allocating staff, and hiring new employees for fall 2018. We are also carefully monitoring both federal and state legislative happenings related to special education. Any significant outcomes that may affect Eastern Carver County Schools will be shared in future news.

Thank you for reviewing our second parent newsletter! Watch for our Summer Edition newsletter in July, which will include important back-to-school information for students with disabilities along with updates from our programs. Please consider providing input into future newsletter topics

You're invited: 6th Annual Student/Family Conference - Sat., April 21
Are you looking for a half-day family friendly activity that is planned with special needs children and families in mind? Plan to attend Charting the Cs 2018: student-family conference in Alexandria, MN, April 21. Children with autism, behavior, cognitive, hearing, vision, physical or communication challenges are welcome. This is a great opportunity to meet other families and many of the disability specialists serving Minnesota schools and families.  Link to Flyer

Specialized Emergency Safety Plans
While instances of violent crimes at school are extremely rare, it is essential that all schools be prepared to respond to emergency situations as part of their school safety and crisis planning and preparation. Our district is dedicated to the education and safety of all students. Each school's IEP/504 Plan Team(s) are responsible for identifying, discussing, developing and implementing emergency safety plans for students who are in need of a specialized plan. Learn more HERE.

Olmstead Quality of Life Survey Results
The Olmstead Quality of Life Survey is the first comprehensive study to learn about the quality of life for people with disabilities in Minnesota. More than 2,000 people with disabilities throughout Minnesota were interviewed about their daily life at home, work, and in the community. See survey highlights HERE.

Parent Education Night a success!
A big thanks to the 80+ families who attended our 7th Annual Parent Education Night in January. It was a valuable evening of learning and partnering together.  Read more HERE.

Community Education - Summer 2018
