China's Battle Against COVID-19 (17)

Progress of China's poverty alleviation tasks The number of impoverished people fell to 5.51 million at the end of 2019 from nearly 98.99 million at the end of 2012. The poverty headcount ratio dropped to 0.6% from 10.2% during the same period. China will achieve the goals set in the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development 10 years ahead of schedule. Over the past 40 years, China has lifted more than 700 million people out of poverty, representing over 70% of the global poverty reduction.

Facts & Updates

As of midnight on March 6 (Beijing Time), Chinese mainland reports 99 new infections of COVID-19 (74 in Hubei) and 28 new deaths (all in Hubei). The overall confirmed cases on the Chinese mainland had reached 80,651, including 22,177 patients ( 5,489 in serious condition ) still receiving medical treatment in hospital, 55, 404 patients having been discharged after recovery, and 3,070 people died of the disease. Some vaccines against COVID-19 are expected to enter clinical trials by mid-April .

What the WHO team see on China's all-out war on the COVID-19 ?

Here is the interview of Dr. Bruce Aylward , head of the WHO team that visited China recently, with New York Times journalist. Dr. Aylward: China’s (COVID-19) counterattack can be replicated, but it will require speed, money, imagination and political courage. I didn’t see anything that suggested manipulation of numbers. A rapidly escalating outbreak has plateaued, and come down faster than would have been expected. It’s hundreds of thousands of people in China that did not get Covid-19 because of this aggressive response. China is really good at keeping people alive.
