THANK YOU FOR YOUR RICE BOWL DONATIONS. CCHS RAISED APPROX. $1,100 FOR CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES

FROM THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS:

Summer Uniform:  Students may begin wearing their summer uniform April 9, 2018.  Due to recent snow days, the spring uniform exchange had to be postponed. We will be scheduling a uniform exchange day in early April.  More info to follow.

General Attendance Reminder:  Because regular attendance is so important, students whose absences are excessive will receive failing grades in each of his/her courses for the current semester.  A student who is absent ten (10) days in one semester without providing acceptable verification of those days will receive a grade of 65 for each course.  Each additional absence will result in a further deduction of 5 points for the semester.  Examples of acceptable verification of absence are doctor's note for illness, court documents for legal appointments, funeral card or obituary for bereavement days, and official college notes for college visits. If the absence occurs on a Friday, the student may be excluded from participation in school functions on the following Saturday as well.

General Tardiness Reminder:  Students arriving after 8:45 am need a parent and/or verifiable doctor, funeral, or court, etc. note.  Unexcused lateness after 8:45 amprohibits the student from participation in all athletic and extracurricular activities.

IMPORTANT SENIOR ATTENDANCE REMINDER:    Due to the limited number of days in the fourth quarter, any absence in the fourth quarter must be  verified  by a doctor's note, legal documents, or official college/service documentation.  All unverified absences, including suspension days, must be made up prior to Commencement.  In addition, seniors who arrive to school after 8:15 am during the fourth quarter are required to make up the time missed and will receive the proper number of demerits.  My office will maintain a tally of the time that needs to be made up.  Students will be able to make up owed time on May 24May 25, and May 29.

Dress Code Reminders:  As a reminder, boy's hair must be neat and clean.  No distracting styles (mohawks, tails, braids, etc.) or colors.  Hair must be one natural-looking color.  Boys' hair must be no longer than their shirt collar in the back and no more than 3 inches high on the top. Buns, ponytails, pigtails, and other hair accessories for boys are prohibited.  Curly hair must be short and neat.  Students must be well-groomed.  Facial hair should be neatly trimmed.  G irl's hair must be one  natural-looking color including extensions , highlights and braids.    Any other  artificial addition  is prohibited.    Hair must be neat and clean; no distracting styles or colors.

  • Helping your child face adversity by seeing mistakes and defeats as part of the learning process, and by viewing them as opportunities for growth and development.
  • Determining and potentially redefining our measurements for success.

KHAN ACADEMY-
FREE ONLINE RESOURCE FOR STUDENTS
Salman Khan was living in in Boston and tutoring his cousins in New Orleans. In an all-too frequent story, these children had gaps in their learning that made them believe that they could not do math. Khan set out to fill in those gaps. Along the way, he developed videos and posted them to YouTube. It turned out that his cousins like the videos better than the live Salman Khan. The reason was obvious. The cousins could pause the video, but not the live Salman Khan. Khan Academy was born from that experience and now has over 2000 videos that reach over a million students each month. These videos are now linked to practice problems that allow students to practice a skill until they truly understand it. Khan's premise this that students should keep practicing a topic until they master it.

Recently, the College Board has collaborated with Khan Academy to provide free, online SAT and AP test prep. The College Board reports that last year, 16,000 students saw gains of 200 points on their SATs when they dedicated 20 hours to this online prep. Students can click on the College Board's website to customize their online tutorial. However, these resources are not just for SAT and AP prep. Students can use these resources to review even basic concepts. We at Camden Catholic want our students to tap into this powerful resource. The Guidance Department and Office of Academic Affairs will encourage students to use this resource. Salman Khan encourages families to watch the same video, and talk about it. Together, we can all benefit from this resource.
