Westland Mayor and Police Chief Attend USCM Meeting to Address Key Public Safety Issues in Cities
Westland, MI (April 9, 2018) -  On Monday, April 9 and Tuesday, April 10, Westland Mayor William R. Wild and Westland Police Chief Jeff Jedrusik will join a group of bipartisan mayors, police chiefs and other experts to discuss common sense strategies on keeping cities safe in a changing environment. The two-day meeting is being hosted by the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) and will focus on a range of issues including:

  • reducing gun violence in cities
  • school safety
  • strengthening police and community relations
  • improving police interactions with people in crisis
  • police department reform
  • preparing for and responding to active shooter situations
  • building trust with immigrant communities.
The meeting will be held at the Darcy Hotel in Washington, D.C.

"The purpose of this meeting is to examine the current state of policing, highlight promising practices underway and discuss the most pressing issues Mayors and Chiefs are facing in their cities," commented Mayor Wild.  "At the top of that list, is increasing school safety and preventing and responding to gun violence.  I look forward to sharing ideas with Mayors and Chiefs across the nation about these fundamentally important public safety issues."
