News & Updates
From the Director
In Carr, Herman, and Harris's book
Creating Dynamic Schools Through Mentoring, Coaching, and Collaboration, the authors assert that mentoring, coaching, and collaboration are shared processes, a shared journey of commitment to effective practice and improved learning for all students.

In a learning community, adults and children alike are learners as they experiment, give and receive feedback, and use and offer support. When these interactions are embedded in the school culture, a new synergy evolves and a shift occurs-a shift to the forward momentum of collaborative school renewal.

As leaders, you spend a great deal of time making sure that these conditions exist for everyone. For everyone, except many times, yourself. It is our desire through Instructional Leadership Symposium, formerly known as Curriculum Council, to serve that purpose for you.

While there is still much work to be done this year, we are excited and looking forward to the new year. We hope you'll join us as we work together to build our Professional Learning Networks and enjoy collaboration and networking across the Region.

See You Soon.

Tammy Becker
Director
General Education Services

Blended Learning? What's that?
Blended learning is an education program that blends online and face to face learning opportunities. The learner has choice and some control over time, path, pace and place. As we shift to more student centered learning, blended learning opportunites give students more voice and choice.
As a result, our sessions here at Region 12 are reflecting this transition as well. We're excited about the opportunity to extend our sessions into the classroom as teachers try out strategies and methods then meet back through online webinars, PLCs, or zoom meetings to reflect and share both successes and challenges. Join us as we learn together!

April 23 | 9 AM - 4 PM | Session #124630

Full Implementation of Student Growth is required in 2018-2019 for ALL T-TESS evaluated teachers.
Are you R eady?
Every teacher being appraised under T-TESS must show evidence of student growth in 2018-2019.  Student growth measures how much a student progresses academically during his or her time with a particular teacher. Many districts are piloting student growth this year, but it is a required component of T-TESS beginning next year.

The Texas Education Agency has developed a training for Student Learning Objectives, one way to measure student growth. Student Learning Objectives can also be a precursor to portfolios and district pre- and post-tests by helping teachers narrow their focus on the skills to target and monitor for student growth.

Teachers will then set growth targets, and monitor students' progress throughout the course to ensure that the instructional plans for students are effectively moving them toward their targeted skill level, making adjustments to pedagogy when necessary.

The Student Learning Objectives training has all the forms, tools, training resources, and rubrics that you will need to get started on your campuses. Plan now to train your principals, administrators, and teachers this spring and/or summer.

Comments from last year's participants.
  • I already have plans to use the games taught in my math stations. I've told our principal that if this training comes back, the rest of our team absolutely needs to attend! It was awesome!
  • I purchased a few of her game materials to implement in my classroom. I also talked to fellow colleagues about her workshop and encouraged them to go!
  • I will be using the dice and cards to introduce numbers in a fun way.
  • I will be using the shakers to help my students with number fluency. I am really excited to incorporate the activities for my kindergarten student.
  • We added several of the activities to our math centers.
  • Box Cars' staff are the most knowledgeable people I have met when it comes to teaching number sense and math fact fluency and automaticity. I wish all teachers could attend their workshops and learn how to motivate and teach students through engaging math games. Julie Knudson is a phenomenal teacher and I hope ESC12 brings her back every year!
  • Loved this workshop. Packed full of useful activities for Kinder!
  • Thank you for sharing ways to implement these games without having to purchase all the materials. Lots of Dollar Store ideas!!
  • The Roll 10's game was one of my favorites.
  • Will use all of the activities in my classroom as centers and direct instruction.
