We knew this day - Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement - was coming. We have been waiting in fear. We don't know who his replacement will be, but we do know the nominee will be an extreme conservative committed to Donald Trump's anti-woman, anti-family and anti-immigration agenda.
Trump has promised to appoint justices who will overturn Roe v Wade. He was good to his word. Justice Neil Gorsuch's appointment was the beginning of the end to women's legal right to have an abortion. Kennedy, was a swing vote in that landmark case. Trump will make sure the next justice is firmly committed to overturning Roe.
The legality of abortion will then be up to individual states, which most likely will uphold a ban. Based on the amount and degree of anti-choice legislation coming from the state houses, women's reproductive freedom will not be protected on the state level.
With effectively no check on Trump's ability to control the destiny of the court, the far right could assert its ideological power for a generation. (1) Every issue you care about will be impacted. Our country will be permanently changed for the worse with a court that will cater to Trump's ideology.
Trump will leave a damaging, lingering mark on our nation, even after he leaves office. From women's rights to voting rights to same-sex marriage, every issue is under attack. No protection is guaranteed.
This week we have been focused on the Supreme Court. However, Trump has been nominating at a record pace judges to the Circuit Court. These judges, who are predominately white and male, also serve for life. He is dramatically remaking American's courts to reflect his dangerous, extreme ideology.
More than 80 years ago, President Howard Taft said, "Presidents come and go, but the Supreme Court goes on forever."
Congress, however, does not. Every two years, we have a chance to make a change. In November, we must put the breaks on Trump's determination to weaken our country's democracy. Our only hope is to change the Senate and House.
"This is a moment that calls on all of us to stand up," said Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL). "We have to win back the House (and Senate). There isn't any other way to right the wrongs."
Elections matter. Elections have consequences.

Rival Palestinian Leaderships Divided over Gaza-Cyprus Port Proposal
The rival Palestinian leaderships in the West Bank and Gaza Strip reacted in contradictory fashion to a reported Israeli offer geared towards alleviating the humanitarian plight in the Hamas-ruled enclave. According to an Israeli television report, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has advanced a proposal to build a port in Cyprus that would serve as a hub for the transfer of goods to blockaded Gaza. The plan is contingent on Gaza's Islamist rulers returning to Israel the bodies of two soldiers killed during the 2014 war, in addition to three living Israelis being held captive by Hamas.

Israel Transferred Aid to Syrians Seeking Refuge Near Border in Overnight Mission
Army says it provided tons of food, medicine and clothing to Syrians living in makeshift encampments on Golan border, but says will not allow them entry to Israel. Over 300 tents, 13 tons of food, 15 tons of baby formula and three large shipments of medical equipment and clothing had been delivered, according to the IDF.

Citibank and Arab Bank Stop Service to NGO with Links to Terrorism
The United Kingdom Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) announced that their organization succeeded in stopping the Defense for Children International Palestine (DCI-P) - a NGO accused of close links to a Palestinian terrorism entity from receiving donations by bank transfers from Citibank and Arab Bank PLC. The U.S., the E.U. and Israel have classified the PFLP as a terrorist organization.

ADL Study: White Supremacist Propaganda on U.S. College Campuses Jumps 77 Percent
There was a precipitous 77% increase in the dissemination of white supremacist propaganda on US college campuses this year, according to new data published by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The ADL's Center on Extremism found 292 cases of white supremacist propaganda on campuses during the 2017-2018 academic year, compared to 165 the previous year. Since 2016, a total of 478 incidents have been recorded on 287 campuses across the U.S.

The North Carolina Republican Party withdrew its support for a candidate for the state's General Assembly over his racist and anti-Semitic statements. Russell Walker, 75, won the Republican primary in May for the General Assembly seat in District 48. "The North Carolina Republican House Caucus and our members will not support Mr. Walker's campaign given his comments and actions," Rep. John Szoka, the conference chairman of the caucus said in a statement.

France to Honor Rights Icon, Holocaust Survivor Simone Veil with Pantheon Burial
French Holocaust survivor and women's rights icon Simone Veil will be given the rare honor of burial at the Pantheon in Paris on Sunday, a year and a day after her death at age 89.
