The Chamber Notebook:
Two Rivers Main Street

Peter's Pantry is a non-denominational, non- governmental food assistance panty established 30 years ago to provide free food to families and individuals who are less fortunate and could use some help. Peter's Pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, each week from 9:30-11:30am. Peter's Pantry's facility is located on the corner of South 21st Street and Franklin Street in Manitowoc.
Peter's Pantry does not buy food, rather, daily and on weekends, the Pantry used a fleet of four trucks to travel to numerous grocery stores and food businesses to pick up donated, but quality food.
Peter's Pantry recognizes each recipient as a guest and attempts to treat each guest with dignity and respect. The Pantry is pleased and honored that it can serve as a channel to help friends and neighbors help other less fortunate friends and neighbors. The average guest (recipient) receives around 50 pounds of food weekly.
Peter's Pantry has a volunteer force of 50-80 volunteers. On each day the Pantry is open to the public, 15-25 volunteers manage the operation. Volunteer truck drivers deliver the food to Peter's Pantry; other volunteers inspect, sort, clean and store the donated food.

Laurie Crawford

Meet Laurie Crawford! Laurie runs her own coaching business in Manitowoc County. She loves the diversity of Manitowoc County and the opportunities it offers. Read more to understand why Laurie Thinks Loves and Plays in Manitowoc County!

What do you love about our County: What stands out for most people is the natural beauty of Manitowoc County. We have Lake Michigan, city, county, and state parks, walking paths and state trails, a variety of wildlife, and four seasons, each with its own recreational opportunities, offering something for everyone.
We have three cities with distinctly different downtowns, and rural areas and dairy farms within 10-15 minutes of each downtown. There are three colleges in our county, offering young people and returning adults access to higher education.
I am especially fond of old houses. We live in a neighborhood with homes that are 120+ years old. I enjoy thinking about the people who built these homes, who raised their families, who grew businesses, and spent time with their neighbors here. We can learn a lot from those who came before us and who built this community that we are lucky enough to call home.
I enjoy seeing the car ferry come in every day during the summer and fall, bringing happy visitors excited to explore our community, visit family and friends, do business, or continue with their travels. It's delightful to see people waving hello and welcoming visitors as the carferry arrives and docks.
I'm excited to see more and more holistic/non-traditional/complementary health care options in our community, from yoga, meditation, massage, and acupuncture to reflexology, Reiki, sound therapy, aromatherapy and so much more.
I love that we are seeing more diversity in Manitowoc County; race, ethnicity, the LGBTQ community. I believe that diversity and what we can learn from one another makes us stronger, kinder, gentler human beings.

Share a positive experience you've had in Manitowoc County: Since I started my coaching business in 2014, I have gotten to know many other women solopreneurs who have taken the leap and started their own businesses. There are flourishing groups of women supporting women in Manitowoc County, which helps us all to navigate the challenges and share the joys.

Why did you choose our County:  Manitowoc County is where I was born and raised. I can take a deep breath here. The natural environment, especially Lake Michigan, help me to feel grounded. My family and friends are here. Neighbors help neighbors and look out for each  others' kids and families. My oldest granddaughter attends school in Two Rivers, and I am grateful that she has the opportunity to be in a Kids at Hope district that has an innovative approach to all that they do. I get to live in a smaller community with an affordable cost of living; and when I'm looking for the big city experience, it's a short drive away. It's the best of all worlds.
