National Junior Honor Society Fall Service Projects
|
|
The Academy Hill Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is a vibrant, active chapter of this national student organization. The students earned membership through their demonstration of the five pillars of NJHS: character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. This fall, members of the NJHS are participating in several service activities.
Student leaders in grade 8 have organized the Annual Winter Warmth Drive. We are currently collecting gently used or new winter clothes - including coats, hats, snow pants, etc. - to donate to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Springfield.
The NJHS is contributing to the Parent Association Festival of Trees fundraiser by assisting with the creation of themed trimmings for our tree entry. This fundraiser benefits the local Boys and Girls Club.
The NJHS will continue its relationship with Link to Libraries, and is helping to label and pack books to be distributed to area schools. We also hope to renew our relationship with another local group, assisting them in an annual activity to support families of those incarcerated during the holiday season.
As you see, the Academy Hill Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is comprised of committed, enthusiastic members who are eager to put their skills to good use for the benefit of others. If you have an idea for a late winter or spring service project for the NJHS, please contact our chapter advisor,
Melissa Earls.

The Halloween Spooktacular is Nearly Here!
The Parent Association hosts the annual Academy Hill "not so scary" Halloween Party each autumn. Our event takes place on Halloween Day (Thursday, October 31). Family members, including siblings, are invited to the celebration. To make the day SPOOKTACULAR for our little goblins, ghouls, superheroes and adventurers, we need your help. Please use the links below to volunteer to assist us on the day of the event, and to offer to bring treats for our tricksters! Thank you!

The Festival of Trees is Upon Us!
The Parents' Association is preparing
"The Great Outdoors Tree"
to enter into the 19

Annual Festival of Trees. The Festival of Trees is a seasonal fundraiser that benefits the local Boys and Girls Club. Academy Hill has maintained a strong relationship with the Boys and Girls Club, and we are excited to participate in this annual event.
We are collecting hiking/camping supplies and gift cards to put under or on the tree to be raffled off at the end of the Festival. We are also looking for outdoorsy ornaments and tree-trimming supplies to decorate our tree. Below are some ideas on the types of items we are looking for:
Hiking and Camping Supplies, i.e.
Water bottles, binoculars, backpacks, tents, compasses, first aid kits, sleeping bags, gloves, flashlights/lanterns, outdoor cooking supplies/tools, blankets.
Gift Cards, i.e.
Dick’s Sporting Goods, Cabela’s, L.L.Bean, Eastern Mountain Sports, Target, Walmart
Ornaments and Tree-Trimming Supplies, i.e.
Owl ornaments/decorations, "Outdoorsy" decorations
