New Decorative Wraps for 15 METRO Bus Shelters

Westchase District recently installed colorful custom wraps on 15 Houston METRO bus shelters in the area. Most of the shelters can be found on Richmond, Gessner, Briarpark and Briar Forest. They've also been enhanced with solar lighting to make the shelters more pleasant for early morning or late night bus commuters.

Each shelter features a "point of interest" which can be found in Westchase District. Those points of interest include Art Storey Park, the Farmers Market, Robinson Westchase Library and the Westchase District trail system. They're a colorful addition to the District whether you ride the buses or drive your car throughout our neighborhood.

Tickets Going Fast for Zest in the West October 17

A Grand Zesting: The Chateau Crystale Ballroom will be filled with foodies at the 11th annual Zest in the West.

Billed as West Houston's premier culinary and wine tasting experience, Zest in the West has become an annual highlight in Westchase District's cultural calendar.

Featuring more than 200 wine selections and delectable gourmet chef-inspired offerings, organizers will celebrate the 11th annual Zest in the West Wednesday, October 17 from 7 to 10 p.m. at Chateau Crystale Ballroom, 2517 South Gessner Road.

As the event has moved over the years within Westchase District - from the Houston Marriott Westchase to the Hilton Houston Westchase to Chateau Crystale - attendance has grown from a modest 300 guests in 2008 to a sold-out crowd of more than 900 last year.

This year's event will feature acclaimed chefs Michael Bargas, David CorduaDavid Denis, and Durand Frierson among others, as well as wines from Chateau Mont-Redon and craft beer from 8th Wonder Brewery.

Tickets to attend Zest in the West are now available and range from $65 to $200. The event is expected to sell out. Volunteer opportunities are also available. Call 713-557-5732 for more information or visit www.zestinthewest.com.

Today (October 3) is National Kale Day!

Yes, there's a day for just about everything, including National Kale Day. According to Dr. Drew Ramsey, the holiday's founder, modern health depends on eating more whole foods and plants, like kale. A serving of kale has more absorbable calcium than a small carton of milk. Kale possesses phytonutrients, which quell inflammation, improve the liver's detox ability, and can even protect brain cells from stress.

Economical but also accessible, kale is one of the easiest crops for local farmers to grow and the ideal way to celebrate local American farming. So support this superfood by visiting PEAS Farm and Veggies in the Burbs at the market this week and purchase some plant-based power!

All Hail Kale on Sale: Visit the market this week to learn about this versatile vegetable packed with vitality and vitamins.
