Scripture Lessons: Psalm 130 and Mark 5:21-43
Sermon: The Spirit Brings...Healing

Scott Kenefake will preach at 8:30 and 9:45 in Lingle Chapel and 11:00 in the sanctuary.

This week the lectionary brings us two powerful texts: Psalm 130, a Psalm of Lament, that begins with the mournful cry, "Out of the depths, I cry to you, O Lord" (v.1). But it ends on a hopeful note: "O Israel, hope in the Lord. For with the Lord there is steadfast love ..." (v. 7a).
These verses relate nicely to the two healing stories in the Gospel reading from Mark 5:21-43: a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years and the healing of Jairus's twelve year-old daughter.
Even though we are not dealing with "newspaper account" material here, we are in touch (in this reading) with how Jesus's very early followers, still in contact with the living oral tradition, saw him.

One of the things we'll be exploring is the difference between healing a "disease" and healing an "illness."  (They are two different things!). And the connection in the early Jesus movement between healing and wholeness and eating together-and how subversive this was-an appropriate topic of reflection on a Communion Sunday!

Deb and Bob Cameron will sing If You Love Me at the 8:30 service.
The Summer Choir will sing Hope of the World at the 11:00 service.
From the Pastor Nominating Committee
The Pastor Nominating committee  is hard at work contacting potential candidates and reviewing PIF's.  As you travel this summer and hear preachers that you might like to recommend, the PNC's email address is [email protected] .  You may also review the church's MIF on the DCPC website under the Employment button on the home page.  Please continue to keep the PNC in your prayers throughout the summer.
Fellowship
HYMN SING AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL Wednesday, July 11 at 7 p.m. in Lingle Chapel.  John Kuykendall and Jane Cain will team up to lead us all in sharing and singing our favorite hymns. Following the hymn sing there will be a time for further fellowship over ice cream. PLEASE BRING a gallon of your own homemade ice cream (or store bought) to share with others. The Fellowship Ministry will provide some tasty toppings to accompany your ice cream masterpieces.
Music
SUMMER CHOIR In the summertime, many people go to the beach and stick their toes in the water. Why not stick your musical toes in the water this summer and try out Summer Choir? Each week, anyone who likes to sing is invited to come to the choir room at 10:20 and learn that Sunday's anthem. The commitment is for one week at the time. Ideal for people who can't commit to regular weekly rehearsals or who travel too much.
Serve
HABITAT HOUSE DEDICATION   You are invited to the dedication of the Habitat House that DCPC built with several other churches, at 9814 Psalms St.(off Bailey Rd) in Cornelius, on Sunday, July 15 at 3:00 p.m. This celebration will not only dedicate this house, but also celebrate the completion of the entire Poole Place Habitat community! The more the merrier, so please come out to welcome new homeowner Melech and his daughter Yemina to their home.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED The Davidson faith community has been asked to house a group of homeless women this summer. Once again, DCPC's congregation house will serve as home for these women for two weeks -- July 13-30. Similar to Room In The Inn, this hosting effort has been divided up into easy-to-manage tasks. If you are able to help, please CLICK HERE to sign up.

SPECIAL OFFERING FOR NICARAGUA We continue to remember our partners in Nicaragua in our prayers as they endure a great deal of violence and unrest in their country.  Many of the groups scheduled to visit our partners CEPAD and Jubilee House this summer have cancelled their trips. DCPC Global Missions Committee has already authorized $3000.  Let's see if we can match that with individual contributions. You may leave cash or a check in the offering or give online clearly marked "Nicaragua" in the memo line.

KENYA PARTNERS ARE COMING We have just learned that two of our Kenya partners from Sigona Presbyterian Church in Kikuyu, Kenya are planning to be with us in October.  We are very excited about this news and invite you to keep them in prayer as they prepare for their trip and as they continue the good work of ministry in their community and through the Sigona Presbyterian Academy. Please keep the students, faculty, administration and all the families of the Academy in your prayers.

CHARLOTTE PRESBYTERY DISASTER RESPONSE TEAM NEEDS YOU   The Charlotte Presbytery coordinates disaster response teams and they need a representative from DCPC (or several!) who would be willing to be contacts for disaster response when crises arise. This person would receive communications from the Presbytery and pass them along to DCPC members. You could also join the disaster response committee at the Presbytery level. If interested, contact Margo Wehrung .

HELP FEED THE CHILDREN of the Huntington Green neighborhood in Huntersville this summer. Without your help they will go hungry. DCPC will partner with Caterpillar Ministries to provide 225 bags of food for these children this summer. Instructions are located at the Information Center. Questions, contact Catherine Bragg (704-617-9905) or Rosemary Klein (704-439-7864).
