Chatting With The Commodore
2019 WSA-OC Commodore
 Karen Pacella
As our year begins to wind down, and summer winds turn into cool fall evenings, it's time for reflection and gratitude. This year with WSA-OC has been one of the busiest I could have ever imagined. Your Board of Directors worked tirelessly to provide a full agenda filled with activities, meetings and education designed to encompass everyone one of our members. This year lived up to the word - MORE.

We have MORE members than we've ever had. We had MORE events and even the introduction of an educational series this year. We did MORE in the way of philanthropy and hosted our first ever - AdventureSail ® for Girls . We even had MORE General Meetings in 2019 - and our General Meetings saw MORE geographic expansion, with our meetings now happening both in Dana Point AND Newport Beach! Even our annual Catalina Trip hosted MORE days on the water!
A huge shout out and big congratulations to adding MORE boat owners to the group! With all that said, we still have MORE to do - our Brunch on Board event and Holiday Party are both just around the corner and will be here before you know it.

As your Commodore and Board Member, I can't begin to share the feeling of camaraderie, and sense of belonging that comes along with 'working behind the scenes'. It's now time to look at 2020 and challenge more members to step up to do MORE. We'll be voting on key roles and positions at our upcoming November meeting - I'd love to see YOUR name on the slate! Committee Chairs and Members are still needed in very important areas and are a wonderful way to 'dip your toe into the water'.

My hope is that each and every member this year enjoyed our organization a bit MORE and that we have an influx of interest in continuing the great work your Board has continued to grow upon. We truly want you and your MORE mentality! Come sail with us!

Wishing you fair winds and following seas,

Karen

WSA-OC Board Election for 2020
It's time to select next year's leaders! Here is the proposed Slate of Officers for 2020.  As always we look to have additional nominations and will accept nominations from the floor at our November 5th meeting.

Commodore - Lisa Cullinane
Vice Commodore - KT Reiter
Rear Commodore - Shelley Furse
Treasurer - Barbara Kelley
Secretary - OPEN
Membership Director - Vallerie Gonzalez
Director at Large - Tammy Rones
Junior Staff Commodore - Karen Pacella

If you're not sure about stepping into a role on the Board, consider a committee position (ideally with a friend!) We need help in many areas, especially in the communications area; website, newsletter & social media.
We meet once a month in the board room at NBYC for our Board of Director's meetings, have dinner and discuss our activities, plans and goals.
If you have an interest, please reach out to any of us on the board so we can see where you might be able to contribute.
First Ever WSA-OC Double-Header Event*
Dockside Clinic & Brunch-on-Board
CTCT-20190222_163438
Get To Know a Boat with Historical Relevance! (make-up of last month's event)

This Dockside Clinic was originally scheduled last month with lunch included. This time we are scheduling it prior to Brunch on Board so we have reduced the price to $15. Sign-ups now open.

We designed this clinic for newer members but there is lots if information that more senior members will appreciate as well. Senior members are encouraged to come so they can share their experiences as well.

Meet in front of Harpoon Henrys at 8 am. If you are late, go to Dock I slip 10 Sails Lady. This will end just before the Brunch on Board so you can do both events back to back.

This is a limited space event. Cancellations will be assessed a $5.00 fee to cover our credit card fees. Cancellations made within 48 hours of event cannot be refunded.
*Dockside Clinic and Brunch on Board are two separate sign-ups. It is not mandatory to attend both.
Brunch-On-Board (Final On-the-Water Event of the Year)
Brunch
Please join your fellow sea mates as we head out of Dana Point Harbor on November 2nd for our final event of the year, Brunch-on-Board. Come enjoy brunch, beverages and celebrate friendships made throughout our 40th year! Sign up here.

We'll meet outside of Harpoon Henry's at 10:30 am, take some fun pictures, get our boat assignments, and head for water around 11:00 am. We'll sail, eat, drink, laugh and be back at the docks around 3 pm. Who knows, we may even see a dolphin or whale!

Bring a water bottle, and anything yummy you'd like to share - we've got brunch covered. Since this event is in November, you'll probably want a jacket, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a camera to snap happy photos.

This is a popular members-only event and generally heavily attended. Cancellations will be assessed a $5.00 fee to cover our credit card fees. Cancellations made within 48 hours of event cannot be refunded.

*Dockside Clinic and Brunch on Board are two separate sign-ups. It is not mandatory to attend both.
