Our school will be closed on Monday, October 8 in observance of Columbus Day. On Friday, our 6 th and 7 th graders will take a field trip to Hemlock Overlook, for some adventure and team-building.
Our Kindergarten class is enjoying the first field trip of the school year today, with a visit to Cox Farms. No doubt they will return with a plethora of pumpkins!
Next Saturday evening our PTO is sponsoring a wine-tasting event. Please plan on joining us as we become "sommeliers" for the evening! This is a great opportunity for fun and friendship. Details and forms available at https://stambroseschool.org/fall-wine-tasting-on-saturday-october-13/

We are very excited for our parish picnic next Sunday. Our PTO will be running some of the games and we look forward to enjoying our parish community!

I will be leaving today to go on retreat with the other principals of the diocese. I ask you to pray for us, as we will keep all of you in prayer.

Cross Country Registration
cartoon-sneakers.jpg
We will begin cross country practice this week.  Practices will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm - 5pm.  Meets are as follows:
  • October 20, Cross Country Developmental Meet - Optional (we can determine if it makes sense to participate)
  • November 3, Cross Country Championship Meet - Fort Hunt Park, Alexandria
If your child is already registered for track, no need to register again, just have him/her show up for practice.
If your child is not yet registered for track and would like to run cross country, please sign them up at https://reg.sportspilot.com/106538/login.  Cost is $30.  Registration will close on Friday, October 12.

****Because we do a neighborhood run, we would like a couple of parents to assist with practices - all you need to do is stand a certain areas along the run and guide runners.  Please contact me if you can assist with this!

We are looking forward to a great season!

Coat Drive

Our ANNUAL COAT AND WINTER WEAR DRIVE will run from 1 November through 30 November.  Please start thinking about cleaning those coats and winter wear that your family will no longer be wearing.  We again ask you to donate only washed or dry-cleaned items which you would have your own family wear.  We love to get brand new items as well!  Contributions from St. Ambrose School have been wonderful in the past years, so let's make it another very successful drive to help those in need.
Technology
learning_enter_key.jpg
Invitation for 8th graders (with some exceptions for 6th & 7th): Bishop Ireton is hosting an all day Hackathon (please register!) for November 3rd from 10 am - 10 pm. You're not required to stay the whole time, nor are you required to compete. You may simply attend the workshops if you're interested! Free food is supplied by the sponsors! For more information, click for the flyer.  Article from the first Hackathon. (This is not required for technology class. I may attend but will not be responsible for your child.)

St. Ambrose Feature Family
Hello, we're the Wieczorek family! We found out about St. Ambrose from friends of ours, the Leffas family, and immediately fell in love with the close-knit family atmosphere and the Catholic culture of the school. Chris is an engineer at T-Mobile, and I (Nina) joke that I'm the director of Wieczorek home operations. Our children are Kolbe- 1st
grade, Lucy- pre-K, Vincent (2 years old), and we're expecting another little one at the end of October. Our main family hobby is fixer-up projects around the house...just when we've finished one, two or three more seem to crop up! We're looking forward to meeting other families at St. Ambrose and getting involved...hopefully our new baby is a nice portable one! Some random talents and interests we have are electrical work (Chris), horseback riding and crafts (Nina) and an affinity for all rescue vehicles (Kolbe). (We all also really like Chick-fil-A.) Thank you for such a warm welcome to St. Ambrose!

Shout Outs

A really big shout out to our track runners who performed as track stars on Saturday!  It was a great day and they all did well!  A special thank you to Mani Tiwari for teaching our runners proper techniques.  A really big shout out to Zoe Bogan and Mayah Tiwari for being the absolute best assistant coaches ever - really guiding the runners during practices, and organizing everything at the track on Saturday.  Thank you to Tim Bogan for assisting all day at the meet and thank you to Esmaralda Prifold for taking photos!  Thank you Cyndy "Steel Fingers" Guy - you know why!  Thanks Zach Bogan for being a huge help on the field for the younger kids (and for raking the long jump area) all afternoon.  Thanks to the Eriksens for assisting with carpools.  And thank you to all of the parents for their support as we pulled together a really quick season.
