Why Finding Your Own Candidates Online Just Doesn’t Make Sense
One of the many benefits available to PIASC members is our in-house Employment Services. When you have a job opening for any function within your company, our professional recruiters are available to proactively seek out candidates to fill them. Best of all, this service is included as part of your PIASC membership dues at absolutely no extra cost .

In the past two years PIASC’s Employment Services has placed over 200 candidates
Members who take advantage of this service have saved time, money and hassle…and ended up with the new hires they needed.

Even though this service is essentially free, members sometimes ask, “Why should I call you instead of simply finding my own candidates online?”

Here are six reasons why…

1.       You’ll save many hours of time. You’ll have professional recruiters who specialize in the graphic arts industry doing all the leg work for you. We’ll cull through resumes, do the initial interviews, and screen the candidates to verify they have the knowledge, skills, ability and availability to perform the job.
2.       You’ll save a great deal of money. What is the value of your time? Plus, you’ll save thousands of dollars versus calling any other staffing agency, because most agencies charge at least 20% of the new hire’s annual salary. Even for a $40,000/year job that adds up to $8,000. In contrast, PIASC’s Employment Services doesn’t charge any fees at all .
3.       You’ll end up with a bigger pool of potential candidates. We have people in our pool of candidates who are not on the employment sites, as well as people that you might overlook because you don’t have time to call to inquire about skills they didn’t list on their resumes.
4.       You’ll have much better job postings. We know how to write your job listing so that it will be seen by more people, and our full-time graphic designer is an expert at making these job listings look top notch.
5.       You’ll have an advocate “selling” the position. Candidates often ask us to tell them about the print shop, especially if they’ve heard negative things about it in the past. Part of our service is to “sell” them on the benefits of working for you.
6.       And did we mention it’s free ?! All of this is included with your PIASC membership at no extra cost.

Plus, PIASC’s Employment Services can also ease some of the stress if you must reduce your workforce, by helping those who are being laid off find alternative employment elsewhere.

2019 EEO-1 Survey Data Due March 31
Each year the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) requires private employers with 100 or more employees to file what is known as EEO-1 survey data. The EEO-1 reports on the number of people the organization employs, categorized by location, race/ethnicity, gender and job category. Employers meeting the reporting thresholds have a legal obligation to provide this data.

The 2019 survey data must be submitted online at HERE by March 31, 2020. That said, as of this writing the online survey site is not yet open, and the EEOC has not announced when it will be.

Action item: If you have 100 or more employees do not wait until the last minute to start gathering your 2019 data. Allow plenty of time for this process

How to Make Your First Instagram Stories Ad: A Full Walkthrough
What Makes an Effective Instagram Stories Ad

First, let’s talk about the differences between being a user who sees an Instagram story and a user who’s just hanging out in the Instagram feed. Stories will automatically cycle through without your input, but the feed doesn’t move until you do something with it.

Stories are a full-screen experience; when you’re looking at a story, that’s all you see. With the feed, you can scroll, so there are more distractions.
When you create  Instagram Stories ads , be conscious of the medium you’re in. Stories move quickly so your ads have to look like they belong there. When people watch a series of grainy, more amateur-looking stories and then all of a sudden there’s a gorgeous image with high-quality graphics, it will stick out like a sore thumb—it’s very obviously an ad. So people often will just discount it and immediately lose interest.

To make your ad feel like it’s supposed to be a part of Stories, there are a few best practices to keep in mind.
