This summer, Madison Square Boys & Girls Club opened their doors to the community, celebrating the first new clubhouse since the 1970s. Located in Upper Harlem, the building is seen from exposures near and far. A vertical playscape with art, music, play, and study spaces, the Pinkerton Clubhouse serves 450 kids daily. Connected on all levels by a central, open stair, generous glazing creates views into the brightly painted club rooms and gymnasium. Visible from the street, the top floor features a luminous dance studio and open-air athletic field. The design’s transparency – of material and program – presents the clubhouse as a special place to belong. Join us this month for Archtober’s BOD or OHNY weekend to experience the space yourself.
