This summer, Madison Square Boys & Girls Club opened their doors to the community, celebrating the first new clubhouse since the 1970s. Located in Upper Harlem, the building is seen from exposures near and far. A vertical playscape with art, music, play, and study spaces, the Pinkerton Clubhouse serves 450 kids daily. Connected on all levels by a central, open stair, generous glazing creates views into the brightly painted club rooms and gymnasium. Visible from the street, the top floor features a luminous dance studio and open-air athletic field. Scheduled for completion in time for the Spring 2020 semester, Rice’s newest academic building nears completion with the installation of the façade’s solar fins and the courtyard’s River Birch trees, further forming this space as the new heart of campus.

Held today at Rice University’s Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, this year’s SSPEED Conference at  Rice University will examine the Post-Harvey Era, discussing the resilient engineering, infrastructure, and policy solutions that are needed and in-the-works to protect this region. Following the official joint compatibility announcement supporting two Galveston Bay flood risk reduction initiatives, the conference commenced yesterday morning with a keynote from Rob Rogers, presenting solutions for Houston’s Long-Term Protection.
