This little plaque hung at my parents' front door from the time they were married until my mom died 60 some years later.  It is now hanging just outside my office.  They picked it up on their honeymoon.

As I think about Fathers' Day and my dad's birthday, even though he is long gone, As I think about home, the one I grew up in and the one we raised our kids in, this plaque and its wording rings out.

When we are out in public, we tend to be on our best behavior making sure others see us as we want them to see us.  At home, we tend to let our guard down.  "After all, they are just family."  The reality is that our children learn from our behavior, what they see, what we say, and how we say it.  The old saying goes, "Apples don't fall too far from the tree" is real.  

Let's each of us be thankful for our families.  Let us commit ourselves to be good role models.  Let there be more recognition that we are treated well and less grumbling.
