Still Time to Enroll in New TBC Adult B'nai Mitzvah Class

The first class was Tuesday, 10/2, but you can still catch up! If you never experienced becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah as a 13 year old, it's not too late to experience this spiritually significant Jewish rite of passage as an adult.   Join a group of dedicated learners and become a member of the TBC Adult B'nai Mitzvah Class of 2019.  Rabbi Rachel Bearman and Karin Beitel, Director of Lifelong Learning, will be your instructors. To join the class email Karin Beitel .  Classes began Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m. The Adult B'nai Mitzvah Service will be Friday, June 14, 2019.  Class enrollment fee: $35.

Save the Date for Rise Against Hunger: October 20!

On S aturday, October 20, TBC will be participating as a congregation in the 8th annual Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) meal packaging event in Wilton. Last year we packaged over 160,000 meals that were sent to Haiti. Since we started we have packaged 945,000 meals, and this will be the year we exceed 1,000,000 meals. TBC was well represented by about 90 volunteers.

Our goal is to package over 160,000 meals this year and raise $3000 as a Congregation that will fund 10,500 meals which will be sent to hungry children in developing countries. While there is no requirement to contribute in order to volunteer, it is critical that we raise the funds to support TBC's commitment to this event. If you would like to support this event, you can send a check to TBC and note that it is for Rise Against Hunger or contribute online. This year each meal costs $0.29, so $1.45 buys 5 meals, $15 buys 52 meals and $100 buys 345 meals -- a really good deal!  The volunteer sign-up site is now available. As in prior years there will be opportunities to sign up for set up, clean up and 4 two hour production shifts. Don't forget that children 5 and older can help (our 5-year-olds last year had a fantastic time and really contributed!).

Join Our TBC Sisterhood! / Membership Brunch on October 21

An invitation awaits you to join Sisterhood this year to enjoy a year of opportunities to make friendships, grow your Judaism, and contribute to the vibrancy of our TBC community. We are a lively women's group, sponsoring many events throughout the year. First, enjoy a Sunday morning break at Sisterhood's paid-up membership brunch on October 21 at 9:30 am ( Brunch RSVP) -- relax with old friends and meet new ones and help TBC fundraise with terrific raffle prizes.

Then we'll announce Sisterhood's upcoming year of events and how you can get connected and enjoy a more meaningful, fab, and fun year with TBC Sisterhood. We'll have New Moon (Rosh Chodesh) social evenings to relax and be with women with similar and new interests, Lilith Salons for social issue discussions, a Hanukkah Party, Tu B'Shvat winter seder, and many other chances to gather coming up. Sisterhood also sponsors many occasions for the whole congregation and those efforts help fund the Temple itself. We are a vital part of life at TBC and we want you to join us. While our Upper Fairfield County Federation is a community of communities, we are also a vast library of stories and a vibrant garden with interconnected roots. This year, with the coordination and leadership of our Federation, many of those communities - congregations, organizations, and others - have joined together to create Common Threads, a year-long project to explore our diverse ancestry and heritage and how it weaves together into our strong and integrated Upper Fairfield County community.
