HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 3, 2018) – The Washington County Board of County Commissioners would like to congratulate County Attorney John Martirano on his new position as Deputy Legal Counsel with Washington County Public Schools.

Martirano has been an integral part of Washington County Government since he accepted the position as Assistant County Attorney in 1999. He then became Deputy County Attorney and in 2005 he was named to County Attorney. Martirano provided legal advice and services to the Board of County Commissioners and County departments, agencies, boards and commissions, affiliated nonprofit agencies, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Martirano’s responsibilities included researching legal issues and providing opinions; engaging and monitoring outside counsel; preparing and presenting legislation; negotiating and preparing agreements and other documents for the County; drafting resolutions and ordinances; acquiring and conveying title to real and personal property; representing the County in court and before various administrative bodies, and collecting various County fees and charges.

Rob Slocum, Washington County Administrator says, “John’s contributions to Washington County span Multiple boards and Administrators. I know I speak for dozens of elected officials and hundreds of staff members when I say John will be missed here. We wish him the best in serving the Superintendent and the Board of Education.”
