IIAN Board Sets Strategic Priorities For Next Three Years
Every summer IIAN's Board of Directors meets to focus on strategic priorities and plan for the future. This year's meeting was held at the Graduate hotel in Lincoln, chaired by  IIAN President Greg Zimmer,  and facilitated by association management consultant Dick Poppa with RAPt Consulting.  Board members and staff met over two days - June 21-22 - and refreshed IIAN's Mission and Vision statements, and also established two new strategic directions to help member agencies succeed and stay relevant:  to provide digital business solutions, and to engage more deeply and discover what members really want and need.  Also, IIAN will continue to focus on two programs initiated last year:  a new statewide program to help young agents grow and succeed, and the Talent Network program to help member agencies connect with graduating college students across the state, in partnership with the IIAN Foundation.
IIAN leaders took a break during the two-day Board planning retreat in Lincoln for a private tour of Memorial Stadium and facilities for athletes - including an inside look at the Tunnel Walk renovations!   IIAN's new future Vision Statement:
"Independent agencies protect the vast majority of insurance consumers in Nebraska"

Senate Passes Farm Bill That Protects Crop Insurance
Bill Also Seeks To Extend National Flood Insurance Program Through 2018
On June 28, the U.S. Senate passed S. 3042, the "Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018," by Sens. Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) by a vote of 86 to 11. The bill included a wide range of provisions that impact farmers, the rural economy, and food and nutrition programs. The bill also includes an important provision to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through the end of 2018.  The NFIP is currently scheduled to lapse at the end of July.

Over the past few days, Big "I" members across the country - including Nebraska - mounted a massive grassroots campaign targeting key Senators.
"The Big 'I' applauds the Senate for passage of a bipartisan Farm Bill that does not include cuts to the crop insurance program", says Charles Symington, Big "I "  senior vice president of external, industry and government affairs.  "The Big 'I' supports a strong crop insurance program and opposed two amendments to the Farm Bill that would have increased the cost of crop insurance for farmers"
"The Big 'I' looks forward to continuing to work with Congress to ensure that the NFIP does not lapse and to get a Farm Bill that recognizes the tremendous value of crop insurance to the President's desk,"  says Jennifer Webb, Big "I" counsel, federal government affairs.

Don't Dismiss Inexperienced Candidates
When hiring for a job opening, companies (and agencies) often make the mistake of overlooking inexperienced candidates. This blind spot is based on the assumption that just because a candidate does not have experience, the individual is not capable of completing the tasks and assignments for a particular role. So, a more experienced candidate is hired .
However, many companies discover after the fact that hiring the most experienced candidate was not the best decision. This problem is compounded by overlooking a candidate who lacked experience but may have been the best fit for a particular role.

MEMBER MARKET HIGHLIGHT
Announcing New Cutting-Edge Cyber Insurance Market For Big "I" Members
IIAN is pleased to announce that the Big "I" has partnered with  Coalition , the leading technology-enabled cyber insurance solution, to offer agents powerful entry to the cyber and technology errors & omissions insurance markets.
What Makes Coalition Different?
Coalition is the first insurance-enabled technology firm built to help businesses before, during and after a cyber incident. During the online quoting process, the insured's network and web properties undergo an automated risk assessment to identify known issues and potential weaknesses in the insured's security posture. Once coverage is bound, Coalition provides ongoing monitoring for new and emerging threats specific to the information technology used by the insured, adding an extra layer of defense. All policies include this technology-driven approach  - which includes automated alerts, threat intelligence and ongoing policyholder monitoring- along with a dedicated claims and security team should a breach occur.
"I was blown away when I first went on Coalition's web site for a quote," comments   Mark Lisko, Insurance Planning Associates, Omaha, who serves as chairman of the IIABA Board that vetted the Coalition program for members nationwide.  "With just a few questions, my client learned where the holes in their defenses were so they could fix them, got a quote, and bound coverage - and helping them also reduced my agency's E&O risk.  I hope members will get set up and give it a try!"  Read more.  Free webinar.  Client declination form.
