Summer is off to an amazing start. Many thanks to all our volunteers, staff, organizers, set builders, singers, crafters, coffee servers, and prayer warriors, for helping make Vacation Bible School a huge success! The kids have been learning how Jesus rescues us, even in the midst of the worst situations. And there may or may not have been a Gilligan's Island skit that may or may not have involved Pastor Steve as Gilligan making a mess of everything.
This Sunday, we will be kicking off our Summer Sermon series called, "Who Do You Say that I Am?" We will be spending the next nine weeks looking at the "I Am" statements of Jesus, verses in the Gospel of John where he says "I am the Bread of Life... the Good Shepherd... the Way, the Truth, and the Life... the Light of the World... the Resurrection and the Life" and more. Many thanks to Pastor Linda who wrote the study guide to go along with the sermon series. Please feel free to pick up a guide in the Narthex or Lobby.
This week we will be looking at why it is so significant that Jesus said, "I am." We will look back at Exodus 3, the story of Moses and the burning bush. Moses asks for the name of God, so he can tell the people who sent him. The Lord responds, "Tell them I Am sent you." What does it mean that we worship a God named I Am?
Don't forget, this evening we have our fabulous Summerfest event in our parking lot. We will have free hot dogs, games, great music, and a performance by the VBS students. And there may or may not be a Gilligan sighting.
And next Wednesday night, for July 4, we are having a fireworks watching party on our roof. We hope you can join us for both events!
