Registration is Open for the October Assister Coalition Meeting
|
The West Virginia Primary Care Association invites Certified Application Counselors and Navigators to attend the October Assister Coalition Meeting on October 9. The meeting will be held via WebEx and will begin at 10:00 AM.
This meeting will provide both federal and state updates. It will give assisters and partners an opportunity to discuss and share ongoing efforts and strategies for OE6.

Webinar Opportunity - UniCare Well-Child Exam Contest: Promoting Preventative Care and Sustainability
|
|
Please join the West Virginia Primary Care Association (WVPCA) as we host a one-hour webinar on October 11, 2018 at noon with UniCare Health Plan of West Virginia, Inc. (UniCare) to review and increase accessibility to well-child and well-adolescent exams and improve the quality of outcomes. Barbara Wessels, with UniCare Health Plan of WV, will provide an overview of the contest along with anticipated changes including the reduction of paperwork for the 2018 cycle. There will be a question and answer period following her presentation.

How Childhood Trauma Could Be Mistaken for ADHD
|
When something new enters our world, particularly our professional world, it often forces us to stop and think about how this information fits with what we are already doing. Sometime we just want to dismiss this new information and go about our regular doing until we are challenged.
As more research and best practices emerge regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), it behooves us to engage this new information in that process of looking deeper into current ways of understanding and doing things. This may be the case in regards to trauma and childhood experiences. How is this new information about trauma informing our practice of diagnosing? The following article reveals that children diagnosed with ADHD also experienced markedly higher ACE scores. Those who endured four or more adverse childhood events were three times more likely to use ADHD medication. Click here to read more. |

Site-neutral Medicare Cuts to Hit Academic Medical Centers Hardest
|
According to a new study commissioned by a health system advocacy organization, academic medical centers in urban areas - including West Virginia University Hospitals - will be hardest hit by the CMS proposed site-neutral pay policy for doctor visits.
The Integrated Health Care Coalition's analysis estimates that 200 out of 4,000 hospitals that bill Medicare will shoulder 73% of the cuts in the CMS' proposed site-neutral payment rule.

Jackson Kelly PLLC Hosts "Trends in WV Employment, Labor and Benefits Law" Training
|
Jackson Kelly PLLC is holding a Trends in WV Employment, Labor and Benefits Law seminar on October 16. Participants can join either in person at Jackson Kelly's Charleston office or remotely. Registration begins at 8:30 AM and the seminar will conclude at 1:30 PM.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest changes in labor and employment law at this seminar. Topics will include new trends in employment, labor and benefits law and will include an outlook for the 2019 WV Legislative Session.

HRSA Quarterly 340B Program Registration Open October 1-15
|
|
The Quarterly 340B Program site registration is open from Oct. 1 to 15 for the standard two-week registration period. Health centers are still able to register a site that has been verified as implemented and with a site status reflected as "active" in EHB Form 5B through Nov. 23, after which the system will close to prepare for the Jan. 1, 2019, start. You will need to provide the following information when calling:
- Health center name
- Site name
- Site IDs for all sites
- HRSA/BPHC grant number
- Contact name and email address
- Authorizing official name and email address
The authorizing official will receive an email message that the account is unlocked and a registration may be submitted. Email the 340B call center or call 888-340-2787, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm ET.

Public Comments Requested for Proposed Changes to the Calendar Year 2019 Uniform Data System
|
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking comments on proposed changes to calendar year 2019 Uniform Data System (UDS) to be reported by Health Center Program awardees and look-alikes in February 2020. Please review the 2019 UDS Proposed Changes Program Assistance Letter and submit comments you may have via the Health Center Program Support (fill out the required fields and select "Uniform Data System (UDS)" from the issue type category)
.
Some fundamental changes to the UDS are being proposed, including the addition of the "Closing the Referral Loop: Receipt of Specialist Report" (CMS50V7) measure, and want to ensure your considerations or comments.
Comments are requested by October 9, 2018 at 12:00 pm ET.

Now Available: Health Center Toolkit for Integrating HIV Services
|
HRSA recently announced a new toolkit for health centers: "Integrating HIV Care, Treatment & Prevention Services into Primary Care." This toolkit is available on HRSA's website. The toolkit compiles resources that were developed during the three-year Partnerships for Care (P4C) demonstration project and highlights lessons learned.
Through P4C, 22 HRSA-funded health centers collaborated with CDC-funded state health departments in Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, and New York to better integrate HIV care into primary care by strengthening the workforce, building infrastructure, and expanding HIV prevention, testing and care services. The participating health centers showed promising results. For example, in the third year of the project, 93 percent of HIV patients served by P4C health centers were linked to care within 90 days, which was a key goal of the effort.
With modules focused on planning, implementing, and sustaining HIV services, the toolkit meets your health center where it is today and offers recommendations for future improvement in HIV care. Please take a look at the lessons learned by P4C health centers!
