The OLMA Overview -- May 11, 2018
What a great week! It began on Sunday when our Choral Performance Group sang at the 11 AM Mass at Sacred Heart Church. They were invited to share their voices, as well as to talk briefly about our school. The girls were fantastic!

Monday was College Shirt Day, which is always a favorite and signals that it will soon be time to bid our graduates a fond farewell. We celebrated Ascension Thursday Mass together and were treated to remarks from Mother M. Beatriz Lassalle, Mother General of the Daughters of Mercy. She resides in Italy, so it was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to meet and visit with her.

It was also a great week to be a Villager. OLMA Softball continued to build upon its winning season and celebrated its seniors. OLMA Lacrosse put everything they had on the field this week and it paid off big time. OLMA Lacrosse made the playoffs! Game one is Tuesday afternoon at OLMA at 3 PM. OLMA Track and Field Team had a successful outing at the Gloucester County Meet. Iyanla Kollock won the 100 meter and 200 meter events, while Marie Pinque finished fourth in the high jump. OLMA Crew also continues to improve with each passing race and I wish them luck this weekend.

With only two weeks of academics left, we are gearing up for Mini-Mesters. All groups met today to discuss details. Please be sure to sign and return the waivers your daughters will be bringing home. Enjoy the weekend and get set to settle in for the home stretch. -- Mrs. Coyle
Student Spotlight
Chloe Abo, Class of 2021
OLMA freshman, Chloe Abo, says that she chose OLMA for high school because of its close-knit community, academic opportunities and the fact that Jesus would be present in day-t0-day life. "I wanted to attend a school where I could follow my faith, as well as be part of a small, caring community like the one I had at St. Joe's in Somers Point," said Chloe.

With freshmen year nearly done, Chloe couldn't be happier with her decision. "The workload can be stressfull, but I talk myself through it and get lots of support from my parents," said Chloe. "I feel good about this year, so far."

As well she should. Chloe has earned a spot on the Principal's List for the first three quarters of the year and is about to add the fourth, yet she remains extremely humble. "I'm just grateful to be here with other students who accept me for who I am," she said. "We all support each other." Chloe credits her friends and Big Sister, Jordan Ruberti, for her smooth transition into high school. "The sleepover we had in August was really great," said Chloe. "I met two of my closest friends there."

While Chloe exels in every class, her favorites are Biology and Spanish. "I love Mrs. Coia," she said. "I especially like learning about the Hispanic and Latin American cultures. I also love how Ms. Coppinger teaches us Biology. She brings things to life in a hands-on way like she did with a recent lesson involing pond water." Chloe is also a member of the Green Girls and Dance Clubs.

In her spare time, Chloe is teaching herself American Sign Language. "No one deserves to be secluded or left out because of a disability," she said. "I like to help others communicate through signing and hope to become a nurse who works with the deaf one day. In the meantime, Chloe will be getting some great practice during her upcoming mini-mester. She will be part of the group of OLMA students who will work with the children served as part of St. John of God Community Services. This summer, she will also volunteer at the Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point.

You are an exceptional young woman, Chloe. We are blessed to have you here and hope you have an amazing summer.
Welcome Daughters of Mercy
OLMA welcomed some very special women to campus this week. Pictured with Mrs. Coyle (far left) and Sister Ambrogina (far right), Provincial are: Mother M. We were thrilled to have them with us and especially enjoyed hearing from Mother Beatriz yesterday after Ascension Thursday Mass. Thank you for your kind words -- and continued prayers. We wish you safe journies home.

Sweet Dreams
That's exactly what more than 125 children are sure to have when wearing one of the brand new pajama sets collected by OLMA's National Honor Society members last week. Donated by OLMA students, faculty and staff, the pajama project will benefit Cooper Hospitals Child Life Program. Great job, girls.
Softball Celebrates Seniors
The weather was picture perfect setting the stage for a Senior Night that won't soon be forgotten. Senior, Tori Smith earned her 99th and 100th career hits, sophomore, Nicolette Merlino hit a grand slam, and the team went 6-1 over Holy Spirit High School for the win. Pictured with Head Coach, Leo Hagerty, are Morgan Hagerty, pitcher and Tori Smith, catcher. Morgan will attend Widener University and Tori will attend Drexel University this fall. Their leadership, positive attitudes, talent and friendship will be missed and forever treasured!

To follow the team through playoffs and beyond, check out the new OLMA Softball website. You can find it on the OLMA website (www.olmanj.org) under Athletics, or by clicking here . Go team!

Anatomy Students Pair Up with Pigs
With the utmost respect for their patients, Ms. Coppinger's Anatomy students got to work on their dissection project. "Getting to open up an actual body and seeing and holding the organs is what makes the project so great." said junior, Denise Dimapilis. "It's one thing to see pictures and videos and another to see and touch the real thing." Here are some photo highlights:
