What happened at Annual Conference


Click here to view Daily Notes from the tenth session of the Upper NY Annual Conference, which took place June 5 through June 8 at the OnCenter in Syracuse.

Next year's Annual Conference will be held May 28 through May 30 at the OnCenter.


Reimbursement for housing form due July 22
 
The deadline for Housing Reimbursement at Annual Conference for equalization members, retired or disabled clergy is Monday July 22. The form must be postmarked on or before Monday July 15 or received at the conference office by 4 PM on July 22.

Disciple 1 to be offered through ZOOM

Pastor Paul Winkelman and Pastor David Pritchard, from the Oneonta District, are offering Disciple I
through ZOOM, which means anyone can join us from anywhere so long as you have a good internet connection.

The course will be offered beginning Monday, Aug. 5, and go through Monday, Dec. 2; then begin again on Jan. 6, 2020, finishing Monday, May 4, 2020. Times will be 6 PM to 7:30 PM, and meetings will be done primarily through ZOOM, with no requirement to meet in person.

Cost is TBA, as there is a cost to use ZOOM. The more people who sign up, the less the cost.

Bishop's Retreat to be held Oct. 22-24 in Rochester

The 2019 Bishop's Clergy and Spouse Retreat is October 22-24 at the
Rev. Grace Imathiu
RIT Inn and Conference Center in Rochester. The theme is, "Biblical Risk Takers" and the keynote speaker is the Rev. Grace Imathiu.

The retreat includes worship, a hymn sing, four workshops and Q and A with Bishop Mark J. Webb.

Participants can earn 1.0 full CEU (Continuing Education Unit) at this year's retreat.

District Workshop Day: Oct. 19 in Plattsburgh

The Adirondack District Leadership Team is pleased to announce that we
will be holding a second District Workshop Day, "Informed to Transform," on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Plattsburgh UMC, 127 Beekman St., Plattsburgh (12901).

We will be following the same format as the day we held in March at the Saratoga Springs UMC. We will begin with registration at 8:30 AM and a time of worship at 9 AM. There will be three 75-minute blocks of workshops, and lunch will be served. The day will conclude with worship and Holy Communion at 2:30 PM.

The cost will be $10.

As the day draws nearer, we will be posting workshop descriptions and a schedule.

Moriah UMC seeks cell phones

The Moriah UMC is collecting old cell phones. If anyone or any church is willing to collect for them, it would be deeply appreciated. The pastor would be glad to drive to the church and pick up the box of cell phones that have been gathered. Proceeds will go to a building fund for the church to help with many major repairs. AARP Drivers Class, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM Saturday, June 15 at the Shushan United Presbyterian Church. The class is also being sponsored by the Newman UMC. On completion of the course you will become more aware of driving skills and you will save on vehicle insurance. Pre-registration is required. Chicken and Biscuit Dinner, 5 PM to 7 PM Saturday, June 22 at the Pottersville UMC, 7899 Route 9, Pottersville (12860). Menu also includes mashed potatoes, vegetable, ice cream and beverage. Adults: $10; Children: $5; under 5: no charge.   
 
Whitehall United Methodist Church will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on the hill. We have a special service planned at
10:30 AM on Sunday, June 30, along with a wonderful celebration after. We will have food, games and fellowship, welcoming any stories you would like to share of our history and how it has blessed you. We cordially invite all current and past members to attend. If you were married here, baptized here, attended Sunday school here or have ever had a family member attend, please consider joining us. If you have attended a wedding, baptism, funeral for a loved one or any event here, we invite you to join us. If you have ever sung in the choir we would love for you to participate in the service and help us "make a joyful noise". Your presence is the most important request, though if you cannot be in attendance, your prayers of hope for the future of the Whitehall United Methodist Church is greatly appreciated. 'Connect' Game and Movie Nights, 6:30 PM Fridays at the Cambridge parsonage (41 E. Main St., Cambridge 12816). Do you know someone
between the ages of 18 and 35? Please invite them to our Friday night gathering. Connect is a small group through the United Methodist Church, made up of young adults who gather every Friday to play board games, watch movies and talk about important issues and topics. These topics range from financial planning and resume writing to the differences between hemp and marijuana. Please help spread the word! Plattsburgh United Methodist Men's Group Welcomes You to Breakfast On the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The group meets at Perkins Restaurant on Cornelia Street (right off exit 38 of I-87) for breakfast, prayer, conversation, and community building. (also accepting purses, blankets, sheets, drapes, linens,stuffed animals). Donation box in the back of the church. Volunteers welcome. Hours: 2 to 6 PM Fridays and 8 AM to Noon on Saturdays.
