Dear Parents-
Memorial Day is behind us and I hope you were able to pause for a moment to remember the sacrifice of the men and women who died while serving in the
United States military.
We thank not only them, but their families as well, who gave so much for our freedom and way of life.
Scantron testing
for the school year is now complete. Results, for students in grades 3-7, will be included with your child’s report card at the end of the year. Additional end of year testing is underway, including the
Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test
, administered to students in grades 6 and 7, and scheduled for June 3. Students who took Algebra 1 with Mrs. Jones, and plan to attend a Diocesan high school in the fall, are scheduled to take the
Algebra exemption exam
Saturday, June 1. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Jones.
I am excited to make the following personnel announcement:

Mrs. Tauscher has 24 years experience as a classroom teacher, serving the last 15 years at St. Timothy Catholic School in Chantilly, VA. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Indiana University (PA), a master's degree, anticipated December 2019, in curriculum and instruction-K-12 reading specialist, from George Mason University, (VA), and holds a VA Collegiate Professional License in education K-8.
As we wrap up the 2018-2019 school year, I am happy to say that we have been successful in meeting the strategic initiatives announced last August. Please

End of Year letter.
This week we celebrate
Spirit Week
, and end the week with the 8th grade candle-passing Mass. The
Candle Passing Ceremony
is a beautiful SJS tradition where eighth graders pass their leadership to the seventh graders through the symbol of light. We will celebrate the end of one journey and the beginning of another. Keep the seventh graders in your prayers and ask the Holy Spirit to guide them as new leaders of St. Joseph Catholic School. We also pray for our eighth graders that they continue to grow in Christ's faith and love in all their high school adventures.
Please make sure you check the website, the official FB page, and official twitter for accurate and current information on events that will take place, as we countdown the last 10 days of school!
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
Rejoice and Be Glad!
