CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
Samohi Wind Symphony 2020 California Performance Tour
March 12-15, 2020
To our Wind Symphony/Chamber Ensemble families,

A few of you have expressed concern about our upcoming trip to northern California. Please know that we are monitoring the situation closely and will take extremely seriously any travel advisories that are put in place. Right now, there are no travel advisories in place for Northern California, but we will let you know if and when that status changes.

For now, please take normal precautions for flu season, and have your children take them, too:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap.
  • Use hand sanitizer when you do not have access to running water.
  • Clean and disinfect all surfaces you come into regular contact with — laptop keyboards, phones, light switches, doorknobs, tabletops, etc.
  • Do not let your student go to school if they are exhibiting any symptoms.
  • And definitely do not let your student travel with any symptoms.

Please know there is nothing more important to me than the safety and health of our students. I've attached a note that I got a few days ago from our tour company with some relevant links about the virus and its containment.

Meanwhile, I am hoping for another great trip up to San Francisco and Sonoma this year. If we are able to go ahead with the tour, please know that all of our chaperones and staff will take extra precautions to ensure that everyone stays healthy. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
A Message from Our Tour Company

We are aware that the Coronavirus has been ALL over the media recently, and as your travel providers, we want to keep you updated with the most current information.

At this time, there have not been any travel advisories pertaining to the Coronavirus in Northern California. We are monitoring the CDC and the California Department of Public Health as the situation continues to evolve and will advise as updates occur.

In the meantime, we have gathered information about the Coronavirus situation at large, and want to present some resources for you.

  • First, here is the California Department of Public Health’s statement and report on the current outbreak in our state. The report includes information about the virus and how it is spread as well as the number of people currently under investigation for the virus.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) also released an update (found here), which includes details such as the source and spread of the virus, the current situation, as well as risk and the steps the U.S. is taking to respond.
  • Here is a helpful fact sheet from the CDC as well.
  • As another resource, we'd also like to share an article published by the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA). This article (found here) is an overview of the steps U.S. Travel is taking.
