NIH D43 Research Training—OHEART fellows training continues
A team from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and its BioHub visited Ohio State from May 6-10 to train the OHEART fellows on wet laboratory preparation for creating metagenomics libraries for next generation sequencing, as well as hands-on training on the use and applications of the IDseq tool developed by CZI engineers. This training represents an example of the joint effort between GOHi and CZI to build capacity in eastern Africa for fighting infectious disease challenges using novel approaches and technologies.

GOHi External Advisory Board member spotlight
Mamadou Biteye, MS, was the former managing director for Africa at the Rockefeller Foundation. An agricultural economist by training, he has over twenty-five years’ experience in strategic leadership, program development and implementation, public policy analysis, advocacy and campaigning and community participatory development. Biteye is an Ohio State alum—he earned his Master in Science in agricultural economics at Ohio State.

Applicants can request funding between $50,000 and $250,000 for one year. This RFA is the first of a series. The Chan Zuckerberg initiative will invite applications during three distinct cycles, with rounds beginning June 18, 2019, mid-December 2019 and mid-June 2020.

The Department of Anthropology at Ohio State is excited to offer a new major, medical anthropology. The new major is ideal for those interested in medical health professions including: physicians, nurse, public health researchers, national and global public health professionals, epidemiologists (including infectious disease zoonoses and chronic disease patterns within and between populations).
