We Are Stronger Together!
Hello Friends of HYC,

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to reflect and give thanks for the opportunities we have had to support families in need. These past nine months have been extremely challenging during the COVID-19 crisis. No matter what line of work or what your family circumstance has been, we have all had to re-adjust what our “normal” once was. Many families have experienced extreme financial stresses with the loss of employment. At HYC, we have been assisting families during this time, now more than ever with basic need resources such as food, clothing, diapers, baby formula, PPE equipment, utility assistance, school supplies, and more. We are thankful for our partnerships and donations that allow us to serve families with these needed resources.
In October, we had two community events that helped families with clothing and food. Thanks to our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier and Baby2Baby, HYC was able to have our first Stop & Shop Event where we served 90 families with over 1,000 articles of clothing! This event, held October 13-19, provided HYC clients and community members the opportunity to come shop for women’s and children's clothing along with diapers and wipes for babies. Our partnership with Baby2Baby has allowed us to distribute over 20,000 diapers and over 50,000 wipes to the community during the COVID-19 crisis! WOW!

On October 6, in collaboration with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, and the L.A. Food Bank, we hosted and coordinated a community drive-thru distribution at Liberty Community Plaza in Unincorporated South Whittier. The L.A. Food Bank was able to provide food to 711 families, without any cost to families, on this day! We will be having another L.A. Food Bank Drive-thru Food distribution at Liberty Plaza this Saturday, November 7, from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. This event is open to everyone. Please share with family and friends!

Our partnerships and the donations we receive from the community allow us the opportunity to serve families who are in need of these resources to maintain health and economic well-being. Coming together as a community to help others, especially during a pandemic, is a remarkable and powerful thing that HYC is truly grateful for and we appreciate all the support given by our partner organizations and generous donors to support families!
