Together, we are the body of Christ ~ transforming people from members into disciples, moving more deeply into God's call to life and ministry, and extending our mission beyond the status quo.
Collect For an Election (Book of Common Prayer, pg. 822)

Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide the people of the United States (or of this community) in the election of officials and representatives; that, by faithful administration and wise laws, the rights of all may be protected and our nation be enabled to fulfill your purposes; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Collect For the Nation (Book of Common Prayer, pg. 207)

Lord God Almighty, who has made all the peoples of the earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace: Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

NATIONAL SERVICE OF HEALING AND WHOLENESS
[The Episcopal Church] On the eve of a historic election and in the midst of pandemic and racial reckoning, Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will call Americans together for a live-streamed prayer service from Washington National Cathedral. The Holding on to Hope service will be held on All Saints Sunday, November 1, at 3:00-4:30 pm CST.

Using a combination of live and pre-recorded elements gathered from across the nation, the service will feature an ecumenical and multi-faith array of voices, musical offerings, and prayers designed to help the nation to confess, grieve, and hope as one. In addition to Bishop Curry’s sermon, the service will also include reflections from Father James Martin, a noted Roman Catholic author and commentator on American life and values; and Valarie Kaur, an inspiring Sikh filmmaker, author, and civil rights attorney.

“We hope people everywhere will light a candle and join us in prayer at this urgent moment in our national life,” Bishop Curry said. “As people of faith, we believe in the power of prayer and the power of God’s love to heal a nation and change this world.”

UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH
DWELL TOGETHER IN UNITY

Like most places in the deep South, Sewanee (University of the South) has considerable pain in its past with regard to racial discrimination, segregation, and conflict.

As so many of you have been on the forefront of the movement toward racial justice, we send this new film recently published by Sewanee on the issue of the dignity of every human being. Sewanee wants the world to know, just because it is called the University of the South, its identity, its hopes and dreams for the future are rooted in an openness and welcome to all, the identity proclaimed in our baptismal covenant. Sewanee wants to be part of the healing Jesus embodies. WATCH THE VIDEO

Sermon Preached by the Rt. Rev. Russell Kendrick at the Occasion of the Burial of the Rt. Rev. Charles Duvall

[Excerpt]

"'Come Holy Spirit, come. Come as the fire & kindle in our hearts the love of the Lord Jesus. Come as the dove & bring to our lives the peace of God. Come as the wind & blow away those clouds of doubt & uncertainty which would keep us from following Jesus Christ as Lord & Savior. Amen.'

I wonder how many times Bishop Duvall began a sermon by praying that prayer. I know my south Alabama accent sounds nothing like his South Carolina accent…but I wonder if when I prayed it…I wonder if u might have caught a whisper of Charles’ familiar voice.

We are here today to give thanks to God for how his voice & even more…how his life...has resonated with our lives…and will continue to do so."
