FAMILY CELEBRATION!
Thu., Jun. 21, 6:30 PM , GYM
The children are anxious to share what they’re learning in VBS this week by attending the Family Celebration in gym...followed by a free ice cream social!
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Jesus came to visit Mary and her sister Martha. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus listening to His every word. Martha, on the other hand, bustled around the house worrying about all the details of entertaining a guest. She was too busy to listen to Jesus, and she was upset that her sister wasn't helping her out at all. Jesus gently corrected her. "Martha, Martha...you are worried about many things, but few things are needed--or indeed only one." Perhaps you've worried about little things. Has Jesus helped you understand that listening to Him is really all that matters?

IMPORTANT Things to Remember

  • ILCS wants to make pick up as safe as possible for your child, therefore parents must sign children in at drop off and out at pick up on the sign-in/out sheet provided. Parents may designate others authorized to pick up their children.

  • We enjoy having your children at VBS; but if they are sick, they need to stay home. We do not have the comforts of home and no one can take the place of mom or dad when a child is not feeling well!

  • Our recreation leader is asking that children wear tennis shoes each day. It is difficult to participate in games in the grass if you’re wearing sandals!

  • Parents who haven’t preordered a CD of VBS music ($10 each) are invited to complete the order from available at the registration tables or send a check payable to Immanuel Lutheran Church) or cash in an envelope marked with child’s name and grade.
GIANT INDOOR GARAGE SALE!

Immanuel Lutheran Church and School in Batavia is preparing for its annual Giant Indoor garage Sale. This year’s sale will be held Thu., Jul. 19, 8-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Fri., Jul. 20, 8-4 PM, and Sat., Jul. 21, 8-1 PM. On Saturday, all items are half-price, with a $5 Bag Sale from 12-1 PM.

The sale has become a welcome tradition in the Fox Valley--and far beyond. Each year the church welcomes folks who have traveled many miles to visit the sale; some even plan their annual vacations to allow them to attend.

Many local families depend on the sale to help clothe their children for the coming school year...some share their thanks with Cindy and the rest of the Garage Sale crew with tears in their eyes. Often the sale benefits high school graduates needing to furnish a dorm room or first-year teachers and other college graduates just starting out and needing to outfit a classroom or apartment. After the sale, remaining items are donated to a variety of local charities including: the Epilepsy Foundation, Wayside Cross Mission in Aurora, Batavia Clothes Closet and CHIP IN Batavia, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Ellen's Excellent sale to benefit Lazarus House, Robin’s Hope, ReStore for Habitat for Humanity, and ReHome—to name just a few.

The sale includes antiques, costume jewelry, toys, clothes, tools, linens, accessories, books, music, decorating items, housewares, holiday items, electronics, sporting equipment, and furniture. There are usually at least a couple of unusual items: one year a dentist chair, another a weather vane.
VBS FAQs

WHAT ARE GOD SIGHTINGS?
It is easy to read about incredible miracles in the Bible and wonder why God doesn’t do those things today, but God IS active in our lives—we just have to look! At VBS your children will learn to look for evidence of God in things like a sunset, a rainstorm, a laugh, a kind word, and a tasty snack. We call these God Sightings; and yes, even preschoolers can make them part of daily life! It is incredible...and easy!

HOW IS IMMANUEL VBS FINANCED?
Vacation Bible School is an important ministry to children and Immanuel dedicates a significant portion of its volunteer, financial, and personnel resources to make it a great experience. While many contribute materials for snacks, crafts, and other supplies, there are also expenses that are not part of our Christian education budget. The actual cost per child is approximately $25 to $30 for the week. This ministry touches the hearts and lives of more than 300 children with the good news of God’s love in Jesus! Offering envelopes are available to send your donations, or click the link below to donate through PayPal. We thank you for giving freely through your offerings and your personal gifts.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD PACKING PARTY
FRI., NOV. 9, 2018, 3:30 PM
What I have personally loved about being a part of this wonderful outreach event is how we can actually be the hands of feet of Jesus, and watching the impact only He can provide. In Nov. of 2015 we held our first packing party and packed more than 200 shoeboxes, the following year we packed just shy of 400 shoeboxes, and last year Immanuel packed 688 shoeboxes!

God has winked at Immanuel by providing letters back from children who have received a gift packed by someone at our party. Every year someone has received a letter and last year I received word from Pr. Mike Mast from our church's District office that he had met someone who helps hand deliver these boxes to children all over the world who shared how they are bringing people to Christ. He said that these shoe boxes were being delivered to Muslim children and after receiving them, the Holy Spirit was changing the hearts of these young children. What an exciting opportunity we have been given to help be a part of such a wonderful thing!

Please save the date and join us as we pack more boxes. We are still in need of many items and would love for you to partner with us by providing simple items like washcloths, balls, coloring books, bars of soap or small toys that can fit into shoe boxes. Contact Megan Popp if you have any questions or want to be a part of the party this year!
The Word of God is at the foundation of all we do.
We welcome and equip people to follow Christ and live authentic faith.
We are a family that demonstrates our faith in Christ by the way we
love, support, and grow together.
